To help clear up anything on the D major note with the off/on. The strumming pattern is DUDUD DU UD DUD (D= DOWN, U= UP) and the off/on is: INDEX FINGER D off U on D on U off D on D off U on U off D on D off U on D on So, basically you hold your index finger off at the beginning of each strumming pattern, had some issue picking it up when I first watched this video so hope this helps!

Thanks for posting the lesson. I love your teaching style, and if I want to master any of the variations that Dave plays, I will go listen to his acoustic versions and try to sort it by ear. I don't understand all of the criticism on the strumming for the lesson. If you already know that song, why are you here? Love all of the lessons, sir, and you have helped me become a much better guitar player.

I, I'm a one way motorway I'm the one that drives away Then follows you back home I, I'm a street light shining I'm a wild light blinding bright Burning off alone It's times like these you learn to live again It's times like these you give and give again It's times like these you learn to love again It's times like these time and time again I, I'm a new day rising I'm a brand new sky To hang the stars upon tonight I am a little divided Do I stay or run away And leave it all behind? It's times like these you learn to live again It's times like these you give and give again It's times like these you learn to love again It's times like these time and time again It's times like these you learn to live again It's times like these you give and give again It's times like these you learn to love again It's times like these time and time again It's times like these you learn to live again It's times like these you give and give again It's times like these you learn to love again It's times like these time and time again It's times like these you learn to live again It's times like these you give and give again It's times like these you learn to love again It's times like these time and time again

Great beginners song. I found it sounds really nice if you throw in the odd Em7 (0 2 2 0 3 0) and C (0 3 2 0 1 3) by dropping the little finger on the second string, third fret or first string third fret. Adds variety and interest. Also half strummed/half plucked it sounds good too. Very versatile song.

Play this song in open D tuning, if you're trying to get the chords with the dissonant overtones that this song is essentially built around.
@SergeyGuitar
@SergeyGuitar 10 жыл бұрын
According to sheet music that I found, the strumming pattern for the verse is in fact | D-DU-UDU | -UDU-UDU | when the same chord repeats for two bars, and for the chorus | D-DU-UDU |, for one bar (one chord).
@justinguitar
@justinguitar 10 жыл бұрын
The rhythm pattern in the song is not exactly consistent all the way through and it depends on which version you listen to! A lot of it is subtle too - there are some very soft strums (ghosts) that can be heard as well. I've done an mix of the versions I like. If you hear it different then do it whatever way you hear it!
@kevinsoutham
@kevinsoutham 10 жыл бұрын
Again I think you're right, but as Justin says it's a matter of interpretation. I bet if you asked Dave Grohl to play this song five times you would get five different versions. Justin's version is a good base from which to imitate AND innovate. You were right about the chord variations though :)
@SergeyGuitar
@SergeyGuitar 10 жыл бұрын
***** This new lesson is a great improvement of the previous old one. Of course there are strumming variations, I truly apologize for criticism. Your guitar school has a very strong feature: you professionally explain the note values and strumming. In vast majority of other lessons the concept of the bars and counting of beats is not discussed. Without a clear bar structure of the song it is an imitation.

Dave Grohl plays Am7, C and Em with variations from the first up-strum on count 2&, i.e. D-D(change)U... Am7 is changed from X02010 to X02013, C is changed from X32010 to X32013, Em is changed from 022000 to 022030 (Em7).

Lena Kilmurray it’s not easy at first. I have a feeling that Justin has done a tutorial on this very thing the way I did it was to do it bar by bar. Try and link the vocals into the chord changes. First do it with just down strums, and changing chord with the vocals. When you have the chords sorted you could work on the strumming pattern and build on it that way. I hope this helps and good luck. Xx
