I love the narrative accuracy of this build. You really capture the way that Dark Shadow is a powerful weapon that can quickly turn on its master, and even give Tokoyami a way to overcome that by the end of the build. This is a high risk/high reward build that if played across an entire campaign would give the player a real sense of growth even outside of the standard leveling up.

Yeah, giving him Charm Monster at the end was a really clever move. But I really dig the Summon Shadow Demon + Darkness combo that can be executed in one turn thanks to Quickened Spell.

I love the idea of Tokoyami choosing The Darkness at karaoke, not knowing they’re a glam metal band and not heavy metal, but he’s too embarrassed to back out now.

I think my favorite builds are ones that have downsides built into them. Both combat and role play can benefit from the challenge the player would have to making things work. I also love the running gag that these characters never end up in a party that suits them thematically

Considering how many MHA builds Tulok has made, you could probably convince everyone to pick a character they like and make the setting Strixhaven, the UA equivalent in D&D.

I see where you were going with the Fiend Warlock, but Form of Dread would have been a good fit for the build as well, especially since you don't get too much from the class features themselves. I like the devil influence for the uncontrolable shadow creature. Builds with uncontrolable dangers built in are sweet.

As someone who put in the comments Tokoyami as an Echo Knight, I just want to say, TBC, that this was just a prediction and not what I demand the character to be. Not that Tulok has accused me of anything, or even cares, but just because I want to be clear. While I think Echo knight isn't a bad way to reflavor a Tokoyami, I think this build is great. In fact I was actively thinking as the video went on that taking levels in Fighter would only take away spells slots for the build to do the much more shadow things. The things the Echo could do are covered by all the spells and would be redundant without adding new things. Honestly I think this is a great build even w/o trying to be Tokoyami. My prediction is just something fun I like to do, so see if I can call the shot and nail it. I make them up almost on the spot because I don't know what character he's gonna build that week, and I put an iota of the time he spends on the builds thinking of my prediction. My *favorite* videos are the ones I don't see coming, like Deku Bard/monk. I like how Tulok shows new ways of understanding basic abilities. It helps me better understand certain abilities and think outside the box. tl;dr great video, love this channel, and if I had my way I'd never ever guess correctly what the build will be.😄

I really wanna see an Eren Jeager build, I know how hard it would be to get to gargantuan (which are most titan's size) and to get some of the abilities from the later part of the show while having a viable titan build but I wanna see how tulok would handle it.

As near as I can tell, the Sorcerer dip is solely for *Charm Monster* . I think this could have been a mono-Warlock build otherwise. But, flavor wise, this is ABSOLUTELY Tokoyami.

Love the Sorlock build idea, but I feel like he really missed out on the opportunity to take “shadow of moil” to have Dark Shadow grant you always on retributive damage and free advantage for a solid minute, with only an Action (or Bonus Action, if Quickened) + Concentration.

One thing I like to Homebrew is Warlocks can change the Damage Type of their spells to match their Patron. For example: a Celestial Warlock can change the damage of their spells to be Radiant, a Warlock of an Efreeti can change them to Fire, a GOO could be Psychic, Jubilex would be Acid, Zuggtmoy would be Poison, a Sentient Longsword would be Slashing, ect.

I expected Tokoyami to have a few levels of Barbarian, with a major focus in Sorcerer or Warlock for the magical side. The way this build came out surprised me, but it works out better than I expected.

If you want to use the unstable demon dark shadow, maybe do it in the middle of an enemy's base and hope target saturation keeps your friends safe. Or just summon him in the middle of a ball or something, live your life, you're a fiend warlock

I think I have a real crazy idea for you next D&D character you should make Tulok. I would really like to see you try making Bill Cypher from Gravity Falls TV Show. And I know some spells that go well with this character for example like Magic Jar and Dream. As for Stats, Background, Race & Class that’s where you come in Tulok. I’m sure you will think of something

Don't believe it was mentioned in the video, but if you use sorcery points to cast the Darkness spell. You can actually see out of it. Pretty sure that's only if you use sorcery points though

If I'm not wrong a round of combat is 6 seconds, which makes a minute of combat 10 rounds. 10 times 60 is 600 rounds of combat per hour, not "just" 100 rounds. Double that with extended spell is 1200 rounds of combat in 2 hours. With a +4 modifier and a DC of 19 a shadow demon makes it save at 15+ (15 to 20), which is 6 over 20 or a 30% chance each round. Using the probability calculation to see how likely it is to fail x times in a row gives the following results: 1 = 0.7 = 70% 2 = 0.49 = 49% 3 = 0.343 = 34.3% 4 = 0.2401 = 24% 5 = 0.16807 = 16.8% . . . 10 = 0.0282... = 2.82% . . . 100 = 3.23 × 10^-16 = 0.000 000 000 000 000 323% . . . 1000 = 1 25 × 10^-186 Or to put it into other words: the chance of succeeding within 2 saving throws is 50%, for 3 it increases to 66%, further increases to 75% for 4 turns.

I just realized you didn't take Summon Shadowspawn because it can't turn against you and doesn't do psychic damage. Other than that, its an edgy build. I like it. Hound of Ill Omen, Pact of the Chain, Summon Great Demon, you have a ton of ways to call forth and with a Charm Monster you can tame them.

I really like this build especially because it has one fun combo. 1) Summon Shadow Demon in the dim light and command it to hide at the end of each of it turns. 2) At any point cast haste on your shadow demon, dropping concentration on the summoning. 3) Now shadow demon can attack from stealth from it previous turn, hide as a bonus action and attack a second time for an average of 34 (8d6+6) damage. At least for the first round. 4) If the shadow is attempting to start a ruckus just drop haste as a free action and leave it without a turn, while it has only 1d6 of them anyway. Definitely not the most effective option but works well to make a mere 4 CR creature a true nightmare fuel. And you don't have to use it often, only when you want the shadow to go with a bang.

My partner has this fun theory about Tokoyami: Dark Shadow is the twin he ate in the womb. As for the bird part: quirks are weird.

I have a similar idea... Though there is nothing with eating each other. Tokoyami has a Twin but the Twin was born as just a shadow and in order to be able to live it attached to the closest living being Tokoyami. Still in the womb, but without the eating. Though now that I think about it I have to watch the Anime again to check out if Tokoyami has a regular shadow or not.

I both love and hate the fact Tulok has to tell people to watch the whole video. On one hand, I was already planning on watching the whole video. On the other, the fact that people make comments criticizing the build before watching the entire thing really sucks. @@itwasidio1736 yes, it lets you cast a spell as a bonus action. It does not increase the number of leveled spells you are allowed to cast .

I'll do the unnecessary explanation for you. Custom Lineage: Since our bird boy ONLY has the HEAD of a bird, and the rest of him is Human, Aaracokra features wouldn't really work since he has no talons and can't actually fly despite being part bird.

The Fiend: Admittedly, no idea why he chose this since this patron tends to Burn People Alive more than it Shadows people, but we'll get that understanding by build's end, and... terrifying shadow monster is probably going to be a Summon Fiend type spell.

Psychic Damage like Mind Sliver: Was going to refrain because "Shadows = Psychic" seem obvious enough, but yeah. Shadow spells that do damage in 5e tend to do psychic damage. Edit: ALSO comes up with Shadow Demons, so... Yeah even more. Though he seems to make that one even more obvious.

My build academia is not paying its electric bill this time! to be honest the whole bird person thing is "passable" since the quirks can change the appearance of people but considering that a physical change and a supernatural manifestation are 2 different thing i will still complain: I like the option exploration! cutting it out give me da pain!! The collection of young future promises of heroism is coming neat in these builds! I wouldn't mind exploring other learning grounds for more Power of Youth, like from Tangle the lemur of course! the juvenile spirit to do good and the skill to survive giant robots seems to be a common factor to choosing heroes in U.A. High School and Mobius.
