That was nice that you put in the rhythm track. I'd like to see more of that. Also it would make a good video ( or video series) to focus on Tony and Wyatt's chord inversions in the rhythm of various songs . Great job Marcel 👍

Superb, as usual, comprehensive and enjoyable learning experience, your many fans will love this one ! Really enjoy the rhythm inset to demonstrate the chords. I need the help and encouragement you provide to venture into the jazz chords and arrangements. The FG 300 brought back memories of learning to play with a friend who owned that guitar from the early 70's. All the best good man, hope life back east is treating you and yours well !!

It sounds to me like he plays the opening line of the melody on lower strings. It doesn’t sound like he hits an unwound string until much later in the line.

Song suggestion how about sunny side of the mountain by Rowan and rice: I think is one of the greatest guitar kickoffs of a bluegrass song maybe ever although I know there are many great ones!!

Marcel, I have noticed that your transcription uses a lot of open position chords. The Mel Bay Great Guitarists of America trans by Don Bowden is almost all closed position. I am still comparing, but I think I am correct.

Hey Sam, in the recording it does sound like the vamp is closed chords. I'm always trying to ride that line between accessibility and direct transcription. This seemed a little easier under the fingers. In the melody to the B part, I think I used open strings where Tony does. My only real concern was the brief E major arpeggio at the B part repeat. That can be played with open strings but I like it this way. I'll have to check out the other transcription you mentioned!

Old Debate Tony Rice & David Grisman started in the 1970's. Bluegrass and Jazz follow many of the same principles. Grisman & Rice's deep exploration of Jazz like tunes with bluegrass instruments have forever influenced and changed the world of bluegrass. Is it bluegrass? Probably not. But, bluegrass has been so influenced by these tunes that the more you study bluegrass the more you will learn to love these jazzier tunes too.
