How To Plug ANY Microphone Into Your DJ Controller - Tips & Tricks For Mobile DJs

A lot of mid-tier and high-end DJ controllers and mixers have microphone inputs onboard, and most of them have what's called a combo XLR / TRS mic socket (sometimes called an omni socket). It basically lets you plug in a microphone whether it's got an XLR jack (the one with three pins) or a TRS (1/4") jack.
Keep this in mind the next time you're at a gig and you need to plug in a mic to the mixer or your controller: first check what kind of socket it has. If it's a combo socket, you're in luck. If it's only either an XLR or a TRS (1/4") jack, you need to find the appropriate lead to hook your mic up.

A PA System is supplied! What an easy life!! If you want to get the Gig in the UK you better have a Full PA system you can setup in the main room. I'm shocked you dont even have your own Microphone. Surely a wired mic and and the required cable is a gig bag essential!??

Just say XLR or 1/4" - you're just trying to sound techier than necessary.

Thanks bro I was so lost I have a usb dual pre project series and it doesn’t have that connection and my mic has that xlr to trs but my audio interface only supports the regular ones ig the male and female xlr?

Yes you can, it's a dynamic microphone so doesn't need phantom power. You'll need an XLR to TRS lead to plug it in - or depending on what you're using the mic for it also can plug in via USB straight to your computer

I have to say, don't depend on other people to supply the equipment you need to perform. A mic and lead take up no room in your DJ gear, take a spare and be prepared.

Hello, I have a Hyper X Quadcast microphone (gaming mic, I know) and it has an output of USB. I am trying to connect it to a Pioneer DDJ-SB3 and the mic input is an unbalanced 1/4 inch. I've been trying to understand how this connects. USB TO UNBALANCED. Your help will be greatly appreciated!

So I have the party mixer it has no Mike jacks. what's the best way to use microphone ? through a mixer? And how do I connect that.

For gigs? An external mixer, hook your controller and microphone to it then send that off to the speakers

question I have the ddj sb3 but it seems it doesn't support mic input everyone can hear me outside exsternally but if I were to stram and talk through I cant be heard so what can I do in order to get me a mic to work along side my controller?ty

You could get an external mixer and hook up your controller and a microphone to it

Digital DJ Tips should I use the court one and plug it straight into the controller or should I plug in the wireless one but the wireless one has a volume on the box and the controller has a volume how do I control the volume which one do I turn off more than the other if that makes sense thanks for answering I look up to you and I look at all your video

Do u know what items i need to reroute sound back into laptop as to have microphone work on live stream? Im unsure which cables or audio interface ' usb to audio mic input etc....please help...much appreciated

The easiest thing to do is just buy a USB mic and plug it straight into your computer :)

How can I add a microphone to my Numark Party Mix to do talk overs while streaming on Twitch? I don't think a regular 5 channel audio mixer will do it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I use DDj 1000 I think it will only work with dynmaic mic. DDJ 1000 doesn’t provide phantom power. Please correct me if I am wrong!

So, I have a confession. I've owned a Denon MC4000 since 2016 I had NO Idea that the mic could actually fit thru the XLR, I thought it was pure solid plastic, ..after watching your video, I said, in my head, "this is BS, I then push my mic thru the XLR and it was a smooth penetration! OMG thank you!

Just saw a film with a “DJ” at a party. What dis he do? He didn’t do ANYTHING! He just said: “Hands up, give it all your voice,” blah, blah ._. does he even know meaning of hotcues... hope he watches Digital DJ Tips soon.
