How To Plug Brian May Vox amPlug into a Guitar Practice Amp
In this guitar lesson tutorial video we look at how to plug the amplug device into a amplifier instead of just using it as a headphone amp.
Using the auxiliary input on the practice amp you can plug the Vox device into the amp. Then use a guitar cable extender to be able to use your guitar cable. Ready easy fix
- The Brian May amPlug is a portable headphone amplifier designed for electric guitar players.
- It is developed in collaboration with the legendary Queen guitarist, Brian May.
- The amPlug features three different modes: a clean sound replicating Brian May's "Red Special" guitar tone, a crunch mode for overdriven sounds, and a lead mode for high-gain distortion.
- It has an AUX input, allowing users to play along with their favorite tracks on any music player or smartphone.
- The device is powered by two AAA batteries, providing around seven hours of use.
- It also includes a folding clip on the back for attaching it to a guitar strap.
- The amPlug is compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry around and use anytime, anywhere.

Must admit I liked the look of the pedal but at £360 spending £2.70 on an adapter seems a lot more economical

I have the BM Digitech pedal - paid about £85 back in the day. The BM Amplug arriving tmw and I’ll certainly use this setup for playing in the garden.

A great product by Vox, indeed. It also works well with computer speakers, in Stereo. I have this Amplug and a Steinberger Spirit travel guitar with me on my summer hollydays🙂

Thank you for doing this, James. This is something I had mentioned when you first got that device and were plugging it into the hi-fi. The results definitely are good. I just had another idea as you were making good on the suggestion. If you had some kind of cable splitter that could divide up the separate channels of a stereo spread so you could export it to separate channels, that could be something else you might want to try.

Sounds good James, the Aux In is not affected by the practice amp settings so this is a good way to go.

I just use wifi speaker with a greater watt capacity . A wire from headphone out to the speaker gives amazing mini travel rig. I have the blues version and I use an old peavey electro acoustic which has a piezo fitted. Sounds brilliant

Great bit of kit, i find using a real TB increases the sound quality switching the onboard one off. 😊

thanks for sharing this information. The AC30 Amplug1 also works very well with a real trebble booster. The AC30 Amplug2 does works with a trebble booster, but it has too much gain, I wasn‘t able to make it clean up🙂

Might seem like a crazy Idea but i wonder how well it would do connected to a pedal or set of pedals? So you connect it into where you would normally have the pedals going into the amp but plugged into this instead. It might not work at all but im curious to see if it can be done or how what would even sounds like.

It will be noisy, since the Amplug already is so🙂 The following might sound too progresive, but I would suggest to everybody inserting litle 10:1 audio transformers in your signal chain, between pedals, for reducing both signal and noise levels wherever needed. That‘s what I do, it avoids having volume knobs almost at zero, getting again too much amplification and noise in the next pedal, atennuating again via volume knob almost at zero, and so on. I have stolen this Idea from the High End Audio Exhibition in Munich, where a company exhibited transformer based volume controls.

A good thing about this Amplug is that it is stereo. So you could even use it in a stereo setup.

Hello james...i bought the amplug and I'm using it..but it makes a whistling sound that anoys me alot(when i put the gain over 6) and idk what to do with it..do you have any solutions?😊

Don’t put it over 6 😂 It might be the headphones you’re using is feeding back. I’ve also noticed that when the batteries are running low the device starts acting up

It’s an Echoplex practice amp. They don’t make them anymore
