You forgot to mention to be at least 200 ft away from water sources....

200?? I dont get it. You have animals all over the place in the bush, sooo?? I dont understand the logic here.

Be careful going 200 feet off the trail when you’re distracted by nature’s call. It can be hard to find your way back. A lady hiker did that on the Appalachian, got lost, and never found the trail again. RIP Geraldine. Mark your path well or even tie a 200 ft length of string to a branch by the trail or camp, so you can follow it back.

I prefer to dig the hole and then lay totally horizontal over it to "do my business". This is easy on the thighs and establishes that you are definitely not amphibious.

Also find your area and dig your holes when you set up camp so you aren't digging when the need arises, also eat a lot of protein so there will be less situations of splatter if you get me.

A much better idea than toilet paper, is to use Wet Wipes. Especially the flushable kind. They take up far less room in your pack than toilet paper, and are really easy to use, and clean you up faster. Carrying big rolls of TP around is a pain.

Baby ( wet ) wipes or Tucks are a lot nicer then the TP and fits in a pack a lot better. Down south do not use or squat in Poison Ivy , Poison Oak , Blackberry vines or any Spanish ( Old Mans Gray Beard ) Moss ( It has Red Bugs ) that's on the ground. .

Bring folded paper napkins as double-purpose butt wipes. Saves space, lays absolutely flat. Eat and slurp a sloppy meal, wipe your face, shirt, and hands, turn napkin inside out and store in ziplock. When needed, take out and take care of your business. DO NOT reverse this procedure! If you must take out your used TP, I say let the campfire have the chore, and stay upwind until processed ... or drop into the nearby obnoxious camper's/hiker's campfire when leaving, giving them a very interesting hot burnt food and foo smell. Hey! This is a mosquito-proofing measure. They don't want to smell it either. Keeps all wildlife away, and upwind also!

Conventional toilets have really screwed up the flexibility of the modern person's legs/Achilles tendon. It seems that most people quit squatting all the way to the ground when they're young children. But that's a movement humans have frequently made to defecate for hundreds of thousands of years, regardless of age. Whoever made the typical toilet design mainstream really did humans a disservice in my opinion.

I don't know how many times I've s*** out in the woods..... Ever since being a kid in the seventies and eighties. When you got a crap who carries around toilet paper with them...... Big green leaves are the best. Get a couple of them so you don't have a poke through. Or you can always take off one of your socks and wipe with that. Leave it in the woods it's biodegradable.....lol
