In this video I'm showing you how to pour and stamp a curved concrete walkway or sidewalk.
If you like stamped concrete and want to learn how to stamp concrete, then I'm going to show you and tell you how we do it on this project for one of my customers.
Pouring and stamping a curved concrete walkway gives the walkway a really nice look. Adding curves to concrete is a great way to landscape around your house in my opinion.
Watch and learn how we pour the concrete, screed it, bull float it, then when to start the stamping process.
Half the battle to learning how to stamp concrete is knowing the right time to start. I'll explain to you when I like to start the process and why.
This stamped concrete sidewalk / walkway is going to look like Ashlar Slate when we are done. I added a color to the concrete called Gull Gray, it was mixed right in the truck, and I also used a release agent color called Deep Charcoal.
If you haven't seen Part 1 of this series, make sure to check that out, I showed how we formed this curved walkway and what we used for forms.
Part 3 of this series will be about how we clean and seal this stamped walkway.

I’m working for a guy that has the same amount of years as you do. He has done a lot of commercial buildings as well as every kind of concrete. But he’s not great about teaching. One of my Co-workers is 3 years younger at 32 years old and has 16 years in concrete. He teaches me a lot, but it’s so hard to break through in this trade. I think it’s because it’s always hurry hurry & your time never comes to jump in enough. With concrete I noticed that it’s one of those thing that’s all repetition which means I have to do, not watch. I love it though, the hard work & especially the feeling after knowing that you just did that beautiful piece of artwork is amazing. Plus the ridiculously good pay helps 😂 I’m green & only been with this small company Legendary Concrete Design LLC, which is 3 of us which only two of us work type a deal. It’s been a little over a month & got a $4 raise in 4 day’s, then another $2 dollar raise today. $26 an hour isn’t amazing but these skills are going to pay off later. Anyway man thank you so much for all you do to pass on the knowledge to the young bucks. I respect you greatly Mike & all other brothers of concrete.

Hi Mike, just so exciting and inspiring to watch. I’ve done a bit of concrete work so have enough tools. Would you share how I might be able to pour and stamp on an existing concrete slab that was poured 5 years ago. The new pour to be stamped can be no thicker than 2 3/4 “ possible a tad thicker. As the existing slab , which is reinforced concrete and poured on to steel corrugated sheet forms the roof slab to my basement below I think I’ll need a DPM. The existing slab is stable and in good condition with surface spalling which I’ll grind off is 3.5 x 6.2 meters and there are 7 x 8” portholes equally spread out which I’ll glaze to provide borrowed light to the basement below. Alternatively,, I could tile the slab but I’d need a little advice on doing that too. I’ll follow your advice if you think you can offer me some help, I would be very grateful to you. Peter

Hey Mike, another great job. Just wondering what brand of powder release you use, and how you determine the best color release in relation to the color of the concrete? Also, are there certain times that you must start a stamp pattern against the building, as opposed to starting against a different reference point, like the driveway in this video? If so, what is that determined by? The pattern, preference, etc.?
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 4 жыл бұрын
I"m using Butterfield color release on this job. I like to use a dark release most of the time, that leaves a better "highlight" color in my opinion. We use mostly deep charcoal for a release color. As far as starting point. sometimes the sun dictates where you start, other wise I like to start against the building if I can to keep grout lines straight if I have any. If I don't, I start where the concrete is ready first.
@TNasty76
@TNasty76 3 жыл бұрын
You mention using more than one color release. Do you have a video of that process? Any advice on doing that, Do you overlay the colors or you put the different colors in different spots. If you overlay will it become one new color? if you throw then in different spots will it look blotchy and not blended?

How do you determine when to use wire mesh vs. Rebar?
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 4 жыл бұрын
It's usually in the plan or blueprints. If not it's just my decision. Kinda depends on the compaction of the sub-grade. If it's compacted really good and hard, wire mesh is good. If I have any concerns at all, rebar is a good choice

I guess you like your candy? You sound like that you are having a candy while you are talking through the speaker. It happened on the last videos as well. Well.... we will just make this informal. Anyone can suck a lollipop while speaking.... no rule. I would do that too sometimes when I am sick at talking and nobody seems to pay attention. But I pay attention listening except it sounds weird when someone is sucking a candy or a mint or ... we can hear that.
