How do you polish diamond plate or checker plate to a mirror finish? Professor Piet takes take us through the steps of preparing Aluminum diamond plate and then polishing it to a mirror finish. Diamond plate commonly referred to as checker plate is a very difficult and abusive substrate to Polish. The key is to be able to remove tarnish and environmental buildup from high and low points of the metal. Our satin airway buffing wheel is ideal for this process. it allows the fibrous nylon strands that are impregnated with abrasive grain to remove tarnish in the low points of the metal. After prepping, the primary buffing cut stage involves the use of our one step cut and color Q 36 metal polishing compound and is paired with a stiff pink airway buffing wheel that has a single stitch and circumference that allows for extra stiffness and therefore extra cut to accommodate the abusive nature of the diamond plate. The removal of the excess compound with the use of renegade products dissolver is ideal in removing buildup prior to the finishing stage. The mirror finish aspect of it involves the use of an untreated Muslin buff (referred to as a UBM buff) and is paired with our extra fine purple metal polishing rouge for the ultimate mirror finish on Aluminum. A final step of using the renegade red show shine liquid metal polish allows for the sealing of the finish and the longevity of the shine. This product can be used with regularity to maintain the mirror finish of the metal.
