Just to note, in the Orthodox tradition only clergy are allowed to use a swinging censer. A hand censer is allowed by laity but laity are not able to perform a complete cleansing of a home. You can say prayers and cense an area but for a complete home blessing/cleansing a priest would have to come in and perform it.

I use this for my next-door neighbors who are jealous of us and speak evil about us to other people who believe their lies. They tried to use a fan to push the smoke back to us, but it does not work. Eventually, they go into the house because the smell and smoke are so overbearing, so you know it's done the job. 😂

I’m glade you’re using frankincense to bless the home; but make sure that the incense is blessed before using it. The whole reason why the censor is on three chains is for you to swing it hence allowing air to blow through it so it burns properly.

there are several vids on YT that are wrong, putting frankincense direclty on charcoal discs, only makes then turn black and burn like normal giving no smell. The resin needs to be put so that it has no direct contact with the heatsource, so that it melts without turning black cause that gives a bad smell

That's a priest's censor the non clergy use the standing one. By the way my dad's an Orthodox archpriest (protoprebyter) I grew up seeing all this and they use those during services and also needed other things they use for house blessings as well. But yeah that one is for a priest to use as he blesses people. Us laity usually order the simple standing ones that flip open and have handle to walk it around when needed.

Frankincense was used as in the Bible as an offering to God for worship. It did NOT drive out evil spirits and you misinterpret its use. You want to drive out evil then look to Jesus and not some pagan ritual.

Yea…… first of all don’t break the charcoal. It has a sunken centre so the incense won’t be wasted and will stay on the coal. Keep the charcoal in a air tight box, that way when you light it it will light instantly, as it’s meant to. Definitely do NOT use this type of thurible for wafting incense, use one where the lid has a chain that you can lift the lid with, otherwise you WILL burn your hands. The lid chain, with the other chains should all go through a locking ring, when you fill the thurible, you close the lid with the lid chain, and pull down the locking ring to the top of the thurible. This way, the lid will Not come off. You can then use it to waft the incense around,. Do not use a feather, if it gets near to this now red hot thurible it will burn, melt etc.

Just my thoughts on this: I hope that all children & pets are removed from the homes, BEFORE using any of the smoke blessings. Some type can kill dogs, cats & birds, just with the fumes...(and that's a LOT in that one.) Then, air out the homes, before letting pets and children, back inside. Note to many others: Oil warmers are just as bad. Always check to find out if it's safe with your children and pets around.
