In this video, parkour athlete and movement specialist, Liam Ellis, demonstrates drills and protocols he uses to protect his body against the impacts of his sport. This conditioning will prepare your body for parkour and, therefore, movement training more broadly.
Parkour or free running is a sport that demands a huge amount of mobility, explosiveness, body awareness, and control. It places large impacts on the joints.
So, how do you prepare your body for this? How do you develop the necessary mobility and joint health?
As Liam explains, the answer is to deconstruct the movement and to work out the exercises that best emulate it. Some examples here include the cossack squat, goblet squat, shoulder openers, and wrist mobility drills.
The best part is that these can translate to nearly any sport or movement practice. And the principle can apply to breaking down any movement.
How do you prepare for your sport? Do you practice parkour?

Parkour is the reminder that we can have fun through our training. Freedom of movement isn't just liberating for the body, but for the mind as well. Even in the earliest stages a perception shift occurs; where others see obstacles, you begin to see opportunities. Cultivating an open and fearless attitude makes for a creative spirit. Thank you for sharing these awesome methods!

Box step ups are such a great functional exercise. Last year I did a series of trail runs in Eastern Europe and was woefully unprepared as all my training had been done in the flat coal country where I work in Australia. I started adding box step ups to my regimen of running, hiking and basic body weight exercises and my endurance through the hills improved out of sight.

It is ironic that many of us start exercise programs because we want to be "fit and healthy". Sadly, it often produces long term injuries such as knee or shoulder problems. I wish I had paid more attention to this kind of content when I was younger.

Geez, some pretty unwholesome comments on here. This is pretty cool, the idea of problem solving your injury prevention is some big brained shit. I'm about to be training for a road marathon that has some fairly significant ascents and descents, the ascents I don't care about but the descents worry me because I don't want my knees to explode!

@acrane3496
@acrane3496 Ай бұрын
Why? Especially when the bioneer would’ve done the exact same video if he was an expert on parkour except he’s not the expert on parkour training, it’s this guy. Remember bioneer has always talked about martial arts and parkour in his videos but he was never fully trained or an expert in them. So he got two experts and they fit exactly in the spirit of this channel. If you want him on a different channel then that means you’re not actually here for the content but rather bioneer’s personality.
