Under despotism in these days that was sort of the case. That is if you ignore the corruption that is filtered through the "legitimate" ruling class top down state financial system.

Here's a tip that might help some people: You know during the AI's turns, you see their lousy diplomats do repeated negotiations without any pop-ups? For you, they should not be annoying targets for assassination farming. Because they can, in a way, help you. What these diplomats are actually doing is attempting to bribe their target. Unless they're Brutii (lul), they likely won't have the funds for such a bribe. A successful bribe will not lead to the waiting turn animation showing up, so don't panic if you keep seeing the same diplomat performing the same action. *HOWEVER,* if the target of the bribe is a family member, failed bribes will strengthen bribe resistance. One of the trait trees (Honesty) also adds to Law, with its end cap being +6. High Law governors are extremely effective for distant and hard-to-manage systems. My recent Gaul campaign has two governors that have traits and retinues that give a total of 10+ Law. If placed in the right spot, even though they have terrible management and influence stats, they govern better than a governor with 10 management and 10 influence. (Key note: If multiple family members are in a tile that is being bribe spammed, all members can gain loyal/honest traits from it.)

Moreover, you can switch on your Finances Tab on the right and at the same time open your Settlement Tab on the left and when you switch it to the Capital, you will see the difference in the corruption right here and now. I'm talking about the vanilla Rome TW, not Remastered version.

This is just one example lol, it probably cost over 80k denarii because it is a *full stack army of expensive late game units* If you're in early game when the corruption traits have a larger impact of your future income, you might want to resort to *small budget bribes* (bribing *diplomats* of other factions for example) under 10k denarii just to keep your treasury under the 50k denarii mark. You can also keep your treasury below a certain point without "wasting" your money, do this by building buildings not just one at a time but put them in a *long queue* , if you ever run tight on cash again just remove them from the queue.
