Ha ha Alan, I also use Homewyse to quote a lot of my bigger jobs and I usually end up quoting between the lowest and the highest estimate on the website. 👍 You should put a link under the description of this video to for the handbook on Amazon.

Yo Manny, I often do the same. Sometimes they seem high so I take it with a grain of salt. I guess cost is relative to the area we live in and other factors

Allen, thanks a lot, I'm from Puerto Rico and although I have a full-time job I'll soon retire and this is giving me the idea of starting as a Handyman, but the prices drove me crazy, after seeing your video, my book arrived last week and I read it every time I can and I tell you that about prices was a headache and with it I was able to analyze and organize myself better. Lee, bought your book dude, nice numbers on the pricing! I will do that and avoid the hourly cause like you said when you get fast you can make a lot more than by the hour! Also, what is your min' charge per job and why don't you also focus on property management companies as well as homeowners or do is it more profitable with the homeowners, but then you have to take to do estimates...
@handymanjourney

Thanks for the support! I am glad the book is helpful for you! I don't really mess with property managers or real estate agents anymore because they typically want stuff done cheaper and quicker than what we can turn around. We have had better luck with homeowners and they tend to stick around a lot longer too!

How do you estimate drywall repairs? I have found that any medium to large drywall repair takes between three to four hours which includes the return trip to sand and possibly paint to blend. Folks don't understand the time it takes to apply three coats of mud plus their drying times and the work required for a good drywall repair so they don't give it much dollar value. I have found that any large 4'x4' repair for example estimated at over $500 often gets declined. I have thought of lowering my "hourly" to make drywall repairs more palpable to the client. Thoughts?
@jeffshackleford3152
@jeffshackleford3152 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't. If they don't want to pay you to be profitable they can pay the next guy to lose money and it is a win win for you. You can do more profitable work while the other guy loses money and possibly messes it up, so then that person will call you to come fix it, which allows you to throw some extra on top.

How much would you put into account towards work truck wear and tear, into pricing? Work truck repairs aren’t cheap, I mean if it’s just tires or something that’s not much but over time that wear and tear can become expensive on a diesel work truck. Wondering how much I should add to the cost of a job, just with that.
@handymanjourney
@handymanjourney 6 ай бұрын
Well, you have to factor that into your overall expenses. So on any given year how much do you typically spend on maintenance and just saving a few percent here or there will help you in the long run if you have an unexpected maintenance Bill come up. We also charge a mileage fee of $2.52 per mile from our shop to their location that helps offset that cost as well

I've always try to make 600 a day min. That's why planned work weeks are so important. If u have 3 small jobs for the day. U can maneuver around all 3 jobs and set a price accordingly on each for that day. Now if its a job that acquires some skill like electrical and it ends up taking 3 hours to do. That's where u can start dipping into 350$ plus range and try to make more than 600 a day.

In 2023 No insured Handyman should be charging less then $100 an hr. I'm in Hawaii and at $125 an hr. if one job is more then 20hrs the rate drops to $70 an hr. We all need to stick together with the higher numbers so we all equity get paid what we are worth and not down grade the (handyman) as cheap inexperience labor

Get a wireless microphone, yelling at the camera does not make a good video. That aside looking at bank statements is a great way to see your profit and loss even better is to have a separate account for all the business activity. Every checking account statement lists amount deposited and the amount withdrawn the amount deposited needs to be larger then the amount withdrawn if its the other way around you are going broke. Yes having help from your wife is a good thing but you should still figure your pricing so you can support the family on your own that second income/insurance can end at any time.
