I'd like to see more on dynamics processing in the Reason environment, when to apply compression, eq, limiting, etc in the mixdown process - I know a lot of this is situational but some general tips and pointers would be appreciated.

I appreciate the candid feedback! I've learned a lot since making this video, and while I'm not particularly happy with the final version of this track (largely due to the issue you pointed out, among other things), I see it as part of my progression in the world of music production! I have a habit of revisiting old "completed" tracks so this song may resurface at some point.

Like punch recording? What I do for that is to set my loop to the area I want to record, set my time selection a bit before that, and record. Then I use the comp edit mode to fix it all up. Not ideal and there might be a better way to do it, but it mostly works for me. I've thought about making a video about it before.

+Demario Hammonds I use OBS. You can set up different audio and video sources through it. Everything runs through my Scarlett interface. Hope that helps!

but when i tried to use obs it lagged badly. i have a mac mini so i should have a great processor. do you have a lot of ram on your obs? maybe i should give it a try again because i haven't in a while

@@blacklanton yeah it says reason 3.0 but I don't see any other name for it..anyways I got a new Mac and an iPhone 7 this week and I came across garage band which does allow me to record vocals but now I need more equipment lol but thanks for the tutorial. I need a new mic and an external disk drive as my desktop mac doesn't come with one ..strange lol

Reason 3.0 is too old to use today. You could record vocals starting in 6, if I'm not mistaking. Propellerhead offers an amazing upgrade program. You can take ANY version of Reason, even Reason 1.0, and use that to buy the latest upgrade of Reason, currently Reason 10, at a very substantial discount. Look to purchase at SweetWater.com As of the date of this post, SweetWater is allowing you to upgrade for only $99.00!!! And that's crazy!!! Also, you can install Reason on OS X or Windows. The only thing is that you have to have ownership of the Reason serial number, which is stored and managed on the Propellerhead website. So if you get a used copy, but that S/N is registered and controlled by the old owner (or anybody but you), then it's worthless. Basically, all you need is ownership of the S/N, no discs or software. With ownership of the S/N, you just download all the software from Propellerhead for free.

If it's saved to your computer, you should be able to simply use the Browser in Reason to navigate to it and open it.
