wow. quality of video is awesome, but if i safety wired like this in the aviation world I would be fired lol. Point to point is neutral, pig tail should be counter clockwise, and your not preventing the bolts from backing out. start with a X pattern through the first bolt then a backwards S on the route of the wire (to prevent it from backing out). by doing this you wouldn't need a tube because the wire would be tight.

I was just thinking the same thing, that wire job deff doesn't prevent the bolt from backing out, not AV standards at all! But, I like the tube idea kinda.

Not correct procedures for safety wire at all. How could you label this video as '' How to Professionally Safety Wire '' ?

Missed a lot of details that could be applied. Aero industry has specs/params that have to be followed. I'm far from an expert on the subject so take it with a grain of salt, but what I recall does come from a 20+yr professional in the field. While the method you use does prevent a bolt from coming completely out, it does not prevent it from counter-rotating. Applying tension to the bolt with safety wire will prevent it from backing out, even if it is not torqued to spec. There is an appropriate amount of twists per inch per wire. 7 twists per inch comes to mind, but I am wanting to say that is related to a specific diameter and alloy of safety wire. Divulging from anal-retentive air industry knowledge, there are a clips that can keep you from having to re-wire the bike every time you need to perform maintenance. r-clips and another type that doesn't tension like an r-clip but I can't remember it's name (a few twists of safety wire around the end of the clip keeps it from opening)

Thanks ML! There are without a doubt more safety wire methods! If there is enough interest in the video we can dive more in-depth, but racers generally don’t safety wire to aircraft grade standards either. We use R clips in some applications as well. Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah I use the clips, and rewire them after 2-3 hundred laps.

That was.... Kinda awful.. Completely ignores the counter rotation that's so important to making sure the safety wire works.. One bolt backing out tightening the other and vise versa.. The number if turns is important too, although less critical on a motorcycle I suppose. But then again.. Keeping it taught and positioning to ensure counter rotation are important. The clear tubing idea is cool.

This is easily the worst safety wire job, while calling it professional, that I have ever seen. This ("method") is doing absolutely nothing useful.

@@matthewmajcher7180 I'm glad in wasn't the only one who noticed this. None of those bolts are being stopped from loosening. Yikes.

Bro sorry, the clear tubing is a cool idea for preventing scratching but the wire needs to be TIGHT. thats the beauty of safety wire tho, its a *snap* to fix. Also, simply slit the clear tubing longways and apply after the safety wire is complete. I use that trick on my fuel lines, oil lines through bulkheads, exhaust connector springs (vibration). Safety wire can also be used as hose clamps, and "jam nuts"

So you don't care if the screw loosen you just don't want to loose it? Do they let you race with this setup? How is it supposet to stop the bolt from getting loose?

This is completely wrong. You should take this video down. The wire is loose and in a counter clockwise direction on both bolts. This would fail tech inspection of any kind. It always must be tight and pulling in a clockwise direction so the bolt can not loosen.

GUYS PLEASE BE ADVISED THIS IS AN IMPROPER WAY TO SAFTY WIRE, THIS WILL DO LITTLE TO NO PREVENTION OF BOLT LOOSENING UP AS SAFTYWIRE NOT POSITION CORRECTLY DOSE LITTLE TO NO GOOD!!!!

Can't agree more.... The wire needed to be thru at least 2 holes, not the top and thru in that way. As a tech for TT I'd fail this.

Thanks for the video good information I had to laugh with the comment about weight reduction with the titanium bolts. Then adding tubing to put all of the weight back on 🤣 I think just losing your gut might be a little more beneficial

I’ve tried to get a GOOD set of safety wire pliers but all I can find are the ones from harbor freight, for what they cost they do the job but the bracket always bends and it doesn’t clip anymore. Where could I get those same pliers?
