I am 62 and lack the funds to purchase a Microscope as I am weak sighted, but enjoy your videos so much as it just proves that the world needs common sense. Example: My wife programmed process controllers without Grade 12 maths and science. I did computer science, but branched into commercial systems. She used Fortran and I Cobol. We now look back after more than 40 years and laugh at ourselves. I was thinking in paragraphs and she was thinking in arrays. I later bit the bullet and went to college to learn C and logic mainly to understand my wife.😇😁

You are absolutely right, Sorin. A couple of years ago I bought one complete SVOD3, but this one was my very first programmer (BIOS chips only, of course). I had never modified it in any way, and it does work perfectly. The worst thig is the chip clip; it is really bad. You are luck, man! It does work for you in the video!.

Phenomenal explanation, I bought the same complete one but I was years behind in studying how to program it now, I am an amateur but you have to check the bios IC datasheet and the clamp or socket have specific positions because usually these products do not come with good manuals.

I have a few things to say. 1. Sorin explained nicely in the video that the chip will not fry because the current is not high on the pins and that is correct. And that Programmer is beautifully designed and does its job.. 2. as far as CH341A modification is concerned, it is not a matter of higher voltage in chip frying, but in data transmission on that pin. 5V (4.82V) and 3V (3.28V) voltage injection affects the data transfer pin (read-write) It is known that voltage and frequency affect data transmission (Example: higher frequency affects data transmission, incomplete transferred content on the chip can occur), which also happened to me, but not always. So it's not about frying the chip, but a higher voltage on the data transfer pin. There is a lot to explain depending on the use of the Programmer and its connections, i.e. the resistance of the accessories (Examples: a clip with a longer cable or the length of the cable by connecting to the chip) 3. You don't need to modify CH341A works perfectly. If you decided to modify, in my opinion, the best way was modified by Georgdev. You can look at (eevblog.com-forum-repair-ch341a-serial-memory-programmer-power-supply-fix) with this modification, you regulate 3V and 5V on the switch. when it is put on 5V switch it is in factory condition.. Sorry for my bad english writing, Regards..

Just purchased the Programmer from Amazon to make it a little easier for me to program the chips. I do have the means to air unsolder the chips but hopefully with this programmer this will cut the soldering step. Great video..... 👍

A great little programmer, the only two issues are speed (it’s a little slow) and the black peg/clamp is terrible. The pin are so hard to line up and get a good connection. I ended up buying the blue pegs which worked so much better! I have bought a faster (more expensive) version to speed things up. But the one you tested is a great device.

My boss bought one of this for us to use in the shop when we were just getting our feet wet with programming SPI chips and such - it paid for itself tenfold ! Soon we were fixing laptops and TVs with corrupted firwmare like there was no tomorrow.....and I never ONCE even thought about the voltage it used :))) It just worked :)) Ok, I never went as far as to program a 1.8v chip with it, but aside from those, 3.3v and 5v chips worked perfectly fine and to be fair, for a good while, I just assumed they ALL chips ran at 5v, until I looked at the datasheet for a 3.3v chip more carefully and had a "whoops" moment, realizing I've been pumping 5v into them for years on end :))) That's when I knew they can take it without a problem :)

I have a question, I am about to do my first spi programming on a lenovo Ideapad 3 (got my brother's computer bricked by a wrong bios update 😮‍💨) and I wonder if there's a name for the circuit you spoke about that may unable writing to the spi chip on-board, because if there is one on the motherboard I'll have to buy soldering tools also and finding-out if this circuit will be a problem before my spi programmer-arrives might save time.

The "Mod" refers to using the programmer for automotive stuff that requires 5v instead of c.a 3v in order to work. Modding them allows you to read/write 5v stuff. Hence "no need" to mod for laptop use - but need to mod for automotive use.

I have used this with success and have never modified it, as the seller from Alpress told me that no need to modify. I even sent him link which said it had to be modified. His answer was they have sold so many and no need. Trust me friend, he said lol. Good one and have a very happy festive seasons.

TL866II+ is the cheaper one the works without issues and there are monthly software upadates ... I use this one only as a COM interface to program seagate disk paramaters ( smart etc etc )

That little programmer repair me frozen bios on Lenovo G50 80 with Intel I5 processor which I sell later for 300€. Still use HP NC 6320 which had power on password for car diagnosis. Neat little programmer. I read and write everything with clip, no soldering.

@electronicsrepairschool Thanks for your videos, I'm just an electronics fan and I learn a lot, a pity they don't have the option of translating the subtitles for all the videos.

I tried this exact method, verbatim, to read a MX25L3206E BIOS chip, using the same exact programmer, ribbon connector and orientation etc. It detected the right device, and even partially read the data, but stopped after only reading 6% of its contents. I disagree that it's impossible to kill the chip with 5v, because after this attempt, the supply is now being shorted to ground through the chip. Prior to detecting the device, the default supply was 5v.I think the safest method is to prevent the 5v completely, when reading or writing to MX25Lxxx, but obviously not for all EEPROMSs!

I've tested it my self - especially I've bought a 1,8v adapter. The programmer software says "Chip not responding" - in 1.8 adapter, but same chip in same adapter works ok straight in CH341a, so what was the point to buy a voltage converter?

I have already used the NeoProgrammer V2.2.0.10 program on the black CH341 recorder, it is much better than the recording program that comes with it. Ja usou o programa NeoProgrammer V2.2.0.10 na gravadora CH341 preta, fica bem melhor do que o programa de gravação que vem nela.

i love this chip just add a 74ls244 between spiflash and the chip you can use it as level chifter with 2 regs 1.8 and 3.3 volt

Hi one question, with this program could I updated a bios? Example my mother boar is a z370 and only have the F5 bios version, and my cpu is a 9th gen, but I don't have a 8th cpu gen, and its support page says that if the mobo is updated to the f10 will work with 9na gen

SPI-NAND chips will not work with 5V data pin levels. SPI-NOR should be fine.

Sorin. When the BIOS is flashed, the serial number of the machine is lost or replaced with another incorrect one. There is a procedure for writing the serial number in the bios file.
