I believe for soil propagation that you need to let the ends callus over for 2-3 days, then wet and dip in rooting hormone before placing in soil.

If your Thanksgiving or Christmas cactus in in a container indoors the aerial roots mean the plant is trying to obtain more water, light or nutrients.

Awesome results either way but wow did they seem to like the water!! I’ve had my cuttings resting and slooowly developing roots, but nothing as good as yours! I’m wondering if mine need more sun and maybe my tap water is the problem 🤔 hmmmm….

I used tap water as well, so i think you're fine there! The saran wrap really seemed to help with it creating a humid environment. I would try that and see if it helps at all 😊And more sun isn't a bad idea too.

I had my cuttings in water for 3 wks with no roots. I placed them in soil today, giving them one last chance

Yes! Once I got the roots about 1-2inches long, I placed them in soil.

Are the rocks necessary?

Not really, it just helped me keep them from sitting in too much water at once.

I have used gravel from an aquarium also. Like Tenney said it just helps keep them out of too much water. I have done it without anything in the bottom also. I prefer to have the gravel or small rocks in the bottom. Just seems to work better for me.
