Sometimes what I do is add pink noise but don’t set the gain pull too much but I use it as a way to deactivate the most recent open mic to prevent any unwanted noise

Personally, I put my Dugan on insert 2 rather than insert 1, that way if there is something else to get inserted Dugan is still the last thing in the chain. Otherwise, great explanation!

I think I'm just a creature of repetition. I know if I'm doing a show that requires dugan, I put it in position 1. But , I were mixing more broadly I could see a s.o.p of inserting in the second slot. Happy mixing !

Is there any way to have 32 channels of auto mix with 2 external Dugan MY16 cards? My QL5 doesn't see them. Thanks

Yes. Link the cards and you will have 32. Takes 2 card slots and you cannot use them with the internal Dante 16.

Could one send subgroups/"yamaha fixed groups" to the dugan? I see the insert tab, so, say I want 24 mics on dugan. Could I just make Mix group 1 Inputs 1-8, Mix group 2 inputs 9-16, and Mix group 3 inputs 17-24, then send each mix group to the dugan, Then turn off each input channel to stereo main and just route the 3 groups to stereo main then, send that stereo main to matrices for output? I mean, I guess I could do 16 groups of 8 and have 128 channels automixed?

You can route it this way, but it won’t really be mixing all of those channels individually as intended. It will be mixing 3 channels from your 3 mix groups or whatever. All 8 mics in each mix could still be using up full gain as in traditional channel mixing and you’ll quickly run out of headroom.

You should point out that the post on insert is important as much as the thing that this position is POST FADER ! Then you should point out, most of all, that the Dugan works in the right way if every channel is fed by the same amount of signal (especially in broadcast where every voice have to modulate in the stereo (or whatever) at the same level), so, the lavalier in the stomach in your example have to be raised in gain (or by fader, so the post fader point out) as much as the voice of that person modulate at the same level of the others. The priority slide have to be used (in my broadcast experience always no more than 1.5 ) ONLY to prioritize dinamically one person on the other when they speak together (the host of a talk show).

@@KINETICPROFESSIONALS Yes, the video is very helpful but not pointing out my remarks could reach mistakes and could be very dangerous in some situations, especially the equal useful levels to be fed to Dugan and not use the weight instead. I don’t think the number of comments could change this truth.

Or, you could just use the mute button as we did, when Dugan auto mixers were expensive analog pieces.
