wow Im really digging your videos ! easy to follow and informative, over the years I have noticed that in a hurry while installing a friction saver, I along with co-workers have twisted the strapping so the rings were twisted when installed . just thought I could mention it. it happen a few times LOL we did not know until the friction saver was in the tree haha talks about bugged eye we laughed at each other an then re-set it but the lesson was learned .. Bino, enjoy your videos. Good job. I have the same double-ring FS. I also have the conduit and leather FSs. I've found that the conduit and leather friction savers are so much easier to set. This is especially true if you have to double bag to isolate a limb.

I've been climbing for awhile, and at school I saw the set up a the cambium saver from the ground once. I had no idea how they did it. Now that I'm on my own, I've been setting up from the ground, climbing up, and then installing my cambium saver. Thank you. I've been avoiding purchasing a throw line for lack of money, but apparently I need it. Thank you. simple video, clear and straight to the point. Just what I love.

Can you wrap it twice around a branch if you need it to be shortened

I whip a figure 8 loop into the sheath of my rope at the ends of my climb rope. I cut out about 2 inches of the core and jamb the figure 8 into the core. I use a whipping on the full rope before the cut core and then use a terminal whipping after the figure 8 to capture the knot inside the sheath of the rope. This way there is a loop extending from the tip of my rope. I use thin paracord 1/16th or 3/32nd diameter. This allows me to run my rope smoothly through any set up.

If you have a long throw line (200ft) you can feed the shot end through the big ring before the throw over the tree. Just pull plenty line through first. Then you don't have to find the far end of the line. ♡

Bino: Is a friction saver as a single tie in point enough or do you need a second tie in? I'm using a Sterling adjustable friction saver at the moment. Thank you

I do like and appreciate your videos. However, there's something that's probably rather common that can foil this method. As I just found out, if your up throw line and down throw line fall on opposing sides of a branch below the crotch or branch the throw line goes over, the friction saver will be stopped on its way up by the branch and it'll never get up to the crotch or branch the throw line went over. Is there perhaps another method that will work when the up throw line and down throw line fall on opposing sides of a branch?

Seems like half the tree's I try to do this on has so many branches that its impossible to get the throw line routed the same way going up as coming down. Any tips for this situation?

Hi Bino, first of all, thank you so much for all the educational content! It is really well done and easy to understand. I have a question about friction savers as shown in this video. If I were to do this with a zigzag or other device for SRT that is not midline attachable, I would have to tie the rope to the other side of the throwline (not the one where the bag was), so that the rope comes out of the small ring instead of the big ring, so that I can then there make the alpine butterfly as a stopper and climb the side of the big ring up SRT, correct? Otherwise I would have to feed the rope through the zigzag every time when setting this up and I would not be able to use a spliced eye in a rope as that would then not go through the zigzag. Am I understanding/imagining this correctly?

If you climb into the tree and want to reposition into another crotch is that easy to do in the tree with the friction saver? I can't think of an easy way to move it when you're in the tree.

All the videos showing set/retrieve cambium savers from the ground, they all miss the part where they get the tied end of the rope back? (through the small cambium ring which sets anchor/saver), they all show setting the cambium saver, then at retrieval time they magically have both ends of rope in hand again???? Unless you keep boyh ends and tie in to bottom of tree, but what if your doing srt on a large tree, your using the cam saver as the anchor, hpw do you retrieve that from the ground?

I'm curious what length your friction saver is and does it hurt to have a longer one that's 48"? What is your preference between the steel and aluminum rings?

I'm using the branch not as support. I have to install the friction saver by girth hitching. No way to climb DDRT when your climbing rope goes around 36" of surface. Thankfully most of the bark I've gotten off. That red oak bark is the worst.
