Wouldn't the force be even on both faces? Since both faces come into contact with the flats of the wrench.

@@shanesmaineshopthe adjustable jaw slides on a rial that flexes. This video is exactly wrong regarding which direction to turn.

I had the same question. Pushing the solid part or pulling the solid part. Looking at a pipe wrench, although it uses teeth to help grasp, evidently the correct way is the top part is pulling. It does appear to me that the worm-screw would have essentially the same force, but pipe wrench diagrams call it wrong.

😐I turn the adjustable wrench the other way around, always with the fixed jaw first. This appears to put a tensile load on the adjustable jaw and is therefore usually said to be the wrong way round, but look at the levers of different lengths where the edge of the hex presses. In my opinion, the small lever should always be on the movable jaw. An adjustable wrench should not be confused with a pipe wrench.

I disagree... while applying torque the pressure is not on one side or the other... its in 2 opposite points... one on each jaw... and the direction you promote makes the pressure point on the movible jaws external/outmost point which increases the torque on the worm mechanism. I think the proper direction is the exact opposite of what you presented....

@@shanesmaineshop hi there... After making my original comment I investigated further.... And it seems I was wrong.... Not only theres a lot of other videos and writings defending your way... But theres also multiple tools from important known brands that even have a writen arrow pointing the direction you described ..... So.... I think the explanation could be wrong... But the indications are most probable right... So to others.... Please disregard my msg... Or just question it and investigate further
