Thank you so much for this video. It is exactly what I needed for my outdoor public bench made out of live edge cedar.

Those spots happened to an outdoor table that I did on my boat. Acetone took them off completely

I’m dosing a version of this right now. The epoxy looked so cool on its own. Like glass but the varnish shows all the brush strokes. Can I buff those out or is that the look? They don’t seem to be laying down.

I bought 4 Live edge tables that have already been finished years ago, they have some minor cracks in the finish, can I use this right on top of the old finish, or do I have to strip it all down to natural wood? This will be in direct elements of all kinds in Florida.

How soon after you apply the epoxy can you apply the clear coats? Do you have to wait the 4 day drying time of the epoxy?

This is so helpful! Do you think this method would work on a piece of wood that has been painted with acrylic paint?

Dude, this is exactly the video I was hoping to find. Sooo thorough! Couple questions tho. Could you stop after applying just the penetrating epoxy? Would that coating be enough (on its own), to provide adequate protection on a mobile bar? Something that WOULD be outside and exposed to moisture and liquids, but only for short periods?

Also, what kind of wood is that?

I REALLY need some advice on a project I did for the Nature Centre, as I am their artist. I had to cover mosaic tile table tops (which had been created years ago, so everything was more than fully cured and stored inside) with resin so the surface would not cut any little fingers. Well, I got an Eci epoxy resin with UV protection rated for outside use and put 3 thin layers on it. Cure of each layer for at least 3 days before lite sand and apply more. Looked great and prevented any sharp edges from protruding. It seemed fine over the summer, facing west, however, when winter came it had turned yellowish and even cracked in a few places. I am not sure what to do with these artworks now. I could lift off the epoxy and re-apply after sanding it down etc, but then do I add a varnish on top to protect it? We have extreme temps here in Canada. From -30 to + 95 Celcius here., Thank you in advance. I really hope you see this, as I can't seem to get any answers from anyone on this topic! I did learn from your video, I just need some more ideas before going to town on this yet again. Cheers and thank you!!:)

Help!! I use stone coat epoxy for my artwork and small portable bars top, Sometimes clients hang the art or use the bar in outdoor covered patios. Both are over MDF that I seal. With min-wax sanding sealer and Behr paint primer. The Epoxy over that, and the backside one more coat of bare paint primer after grinding the drips. Can I use this total boat clear coat product and over my final SCC flood coat? For that level of protection.

Hey, just wondering if you're also coating the underside of the bar surface? I'm working on a similar project with similar exposure conditions and I'm worried about moisture coming in from the underside over time.

I'm not sure what other people's experience has been but whenever I epoxy even for indoor I always do top and bottom. I've tried doing two or three coats of poly on the bottom side and it did not prove sufficient to keep the piece from warping over time with moisture changes.

Did you sand after the epoxy but before the varnish....my epoxy flood coat is very glossy and smooth, I'm not sure if varnish would adhere to it? If you did sand, what grit?

Great video. I will be doing a live edge mesquite river bar top for a poolside pavilion. I was going to simply do a flood coat but now will be using TB penetrating epoxy sealer and halcyon varnish. Is there any problem with the deep pour epoxy bonding with the penetrating epoxy sealer?

Do you need to use the penetrating epoxy? Or can you use a regular epoxy? I live in Canada and can’t seem to find the Total Boat Penetrating Epoxy anywhere.

You showed us a 1 yr after install review but I still see it was on your saw horses with your festool vacuum in the back ground. That image did not look like it was back under the patio. Am I missing something??

I created the video and blog post one year after the bar top was initially shipped and installed at the customer’s home. I could only get verbal confirmation the bar top was performing very well. I live in Florida and the customer lives in South Carolina.

Did the Halcyon lay down flat, or did you have brush strokes to deal with? I'm about to use it to weather seal an epoxy-coated concrete slab, and found your video helpful. Thanks!

I've been reading up on the best outdoor wood protecting finish and settled on West Supply 105 epoxy with their 207 hardener, which has UV light protection. Then on top of that, a two part polyurethane, also with UV protection. The epoxy is painted on with a badger hair brush, sanded with one or two more coats sanded between coats. Same with the two part poly but foam brushes. What are your thoughts? I made two old growth redwood benches and my goal is not just to protect them with a water resistant and UV protected finish but also to give the soft and easily scratched/dented redwood a harder finish. I think I should do the same finish on the underside. I plan on starting the finish next week as I'm waiting on UPS. Thanks!

I just bought a picnic table from Home Depot and the table will be staying outside in the sun and weather, I have used Minwax spar varnish on it just to get some kind of wood preservative on it but I want it to look similar to what you are doing, Can I used the Total Boat varnish over top of the minwax varnish that I have already put on it, if I need to do any sanding I can do that, I just wasn't sure if the Total Boat varnish was an epoxy or not, or is there something that I need to put down first, also what is the blue colored on the table that you used on the table already. Thank you in advance

The tabletop is possible to scratch from light scratches to serious damage, doesn’t it? Is there any good idea for anti-scratch on a resin tables?
