I’d love to see an “update video” in which we can see how some of the bonsai have grown from videos of the past 1-3 years, using before and after photos/video. Thanks, as always, for the amazing videos. I’ve had bonsai for over the past 10 years, but only recently through your channel has my knowledge and skills been growing so much!

The video was just fine Peter, it could be no video and we would still learn. You should get a GoPro Camera, they have a chest mount and a helmet mount, put it on a bicycle helmet and the camera will look where you look, I put one on my car when I was racing and just put a mount on my Kayak. Thanks again for the video, my Picea are all flushing those beautiful and wonderful smelling needles after I butchered them last year, gave them the winter off and now with the new wire they are filling in and look amazing. I have 50 trees now and over 100 baby pines from seeds, it is a wonderful addiction and I thank you for all the guidance and support.

This really helps me to understand how to prune the conifers in my back yard...

Great video Peter. I always struggle to smile properly in a lot of videos I make. Fair play being able to video and prune, especially with the injured forefinger. What a lovely tree. I'm trying to recover my White Pine after an emergency repot last year after an severe Vine Beetle infestation. Its lost a good number of branches, but the tips are green again with candles. Thanks for sharing,

I rescued a very dry and sad 5-needle pine - my first ever bonsai - and now it is recovering (indoors) and sprouting candles, so I am delighted. Can you tell me what I should do with individual candles please? Some of the twigs have double shoots/candles; should I take one or both off? Or half of one and leave the other? It is a lovely tree, so I want to do my best.

Im asking because i have a little brother's birthday later in the year, and i really think he will like getting interested in the world of bonsai. He will be working on his tree under the careful watch and teaching thu me. My brother and i dont get along quite well, i just think this would be a good way to bond and start a new healthier relationship.

I sure hope someone can help me. I think I made a mistake. I bought a fukuzumi white pine 2 gallon yesterday and I thought a relatively large root was the beginning of the root flare but it was actually an adventitious root because it was planted too deep. Will excavating further for the root flare I had to remove another large sized adventitious Root. They were both about the size of a pea in diameter. The caliper of the rootstock tree where it was grafted is approximately the diameter of a US quarter. There is still a rootball ball obviously smaller than the original after all is said and done. My questions to any and all experts: - It’s about 80 degrees here in June in Massachusetts. Recognizing after the fact I should have done this in March/Feb, I removed two semi hardened candles about 5 inches long to accommodate for some of the root removal. I also fertilized with an organic Hollytone fertilizer. Was this correct or incorrect? - Is there anything I should be doing to “baby” the tree to prevent further stress during the summer like moving it to part shade location? Am I just screwed? Thank you guys. I’m new to the Japanese White Pines. I assumed they were as tough as Japanese maples but under the impression JWP are not as forgiving.
