This is a really thorough video, I appreciate the clarification about frost hardiness between French and English lavender, and showing how not to cut back a young plant too much!

A very timely video Lee. I have just been pruning my English lavender this afternoon. I didn't get round to doing it when it stopped flowering, basically because it didn't seem to stop this Summer, it was only before Christmas when we got the cold snap that it went dormant. I made the most of the sunshine today before more rain arrived and I had a bit of a tidy up. Thankfully I did only take the top off the lavender as you said. I have had lavender plants for years now and it's only after a good few years that I replace them, they do eventually start to look woody and bare at the bottom. I use the trimmings for cuttings to replace the plants as they get old.

Thanks very much for doing this vlog. I have loads of English lavender in my front garden that was planted before I moved in. It's a new build, and I must admit the front garden was low in priority when I moved in 4 years ago. Last year was the first year that I actually had to trim it, cause its got so big nearly up to my thighs. I had to take hedge cutters to them. I probably did take off more than suggested, but it did start to grow again after I trimmed it, so at least I know I didn't kill it. It does look gorgeous when It's all flowering.

@Garden Ninja: Lee Burkhill I do have other shrubs in there. It's only very small at the front. I am concentrating on landscaping the garden and that's a huge garden. Hopefully I'll get it finished this year and be able to enjoy it more.

Thanks for the reminder! I left my lavender this fall because the bees and pollinators were all over it. Yesterday, I noticed the plants are looking scruffy, so it's time for their annual pruning. The other step I take on my larger plants is to feel around the edges to see if any of the outer branches have settled in the soil and are trying to root in. I cut those off as they really mess with the plant's shape.

Thank you for some wonderful info. I have a wisteria tree and love the blossums and was wondering if it is wise and profitable to train some of the branches onto a trellis to extend the growth over the top of some other scrubs.

You have a very attentive border terrier assistant although he does appear to be keeping an eye out for squirrels and other intruders. I will have to give my lavender some attention when it begins to warm up in a month or so.

Prune them is not my problem. I had a scaffold around my house and wasn't allowed into my garden since second week of last September. A video about 'How to find your lavenders and other plants and bulb-plants ' would be great 🙂

@@Gardenninja Oh I can't wait for gardening season. I've already prepared a container and filled it up with soil for the garlic cloves. Will be seeding different tomatoes and cucumbers indoors this week, so by the time I plant them out they are not too small. This year I'm ready and hungry 🙂
