Pumping on ANY board is EASY if done correctly, but useless if done wrong. Watch the video to learn the proper technique :D
Also keep in mind, pumping will feel slightly different depending on your board shape, style, size, concave, etc....but the technique will be pretty similar and universal. The biggest thing is to get out there, practice, and get a feel for how YOUR board works!

Using a topmount board and wedging the front trucks 5 degrees and de-wedging the rear truck 5 degrees will improve the pumpablility of your board. Also getting a bracket board such as a G-bomb can be a fun pumper.

Hi Ogden, from what I've been reading the ldp set up is a tighter back truck. I have a long board I'm using for distance pushing and pumping..but I like the feel of big surf carves..should I keep the Rear truck lose like the front? Or tight. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Love your videos;)
@OgdenSikel
@OgdenSikel 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly it really depends on you and how it feels for your riding experience because everyone has a different preference. You can pump on any setup as long as your trucks overall are loose enough to turn easily. I don't even know what truck is looser for me I just tighten them up, try out the board, and adjust until it feels good to me. So while tighter back truck does work for some people, its all personal preference really.

hey dude ur videos are great, u are kinda motivating me... but I got a question, maybe that’s stupid but anyways I wanna ask it. When I’m standing on my longboard am feening freaking uncomfortable on it, like I feel “now I gonna fall down”. how i can overcome it? Cause I got my longboard about one year, and i’m riding maybe a few times in a month.. What can u say about it? How can I fix that problem, am reaally feeling so uncomfortable on the deck and get that feeling, tho ama 21 years old. Answer me please:((( upd: i have drop down through longboard and never can go to cruising in the city, am riding sometimes only at place where’s no people and where’s is super straight road without downhills cause i can’t stop my longboard am jumping from it
@OgdenSikel
@OgdenSikel 3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. I’d say try to practice more than just a few times a month. Get out a few times a week if possible. Make sure like 70-80% or your weight is mostly on your front foot to give you the most control, and you could also try putting your other foot on the front of the board (maybe you’re actually riding switch but don’t know it...that can be uncomfortable for some ppl)

Should we have our heels and toes lifting up (off the board) when pumping? Also, should the switches between the two sides be sharp or smooth?
@OgdenSikel
@OgdenSikel 3 жыл бұрын
I'd say yeah, they want to be lifting up, but dont force them to. when you go side to side it should feel natural but yeah they come up a little bit. I'd say switches between sides should be more sharp than smooth. It is a pretty sudden switch in weight and you wanna do that quite sharply.

I'm struggling with trucks: How tight/loose they should be? I can sense your rare truck (longboard) is tighter than the front one, that's the way I use them. But I'm 38, so I'm not as energic as you are and of course want more stability rather than any other thing. Not sure If I should make the front truck looser as I already feel it bends a lot, but it still doesn't turn so stiff. Still haven't practiced the carving, but I'm up to it next.

I'm quickly finding that a cruiser board isnt recommended for beginners like me that have trouble steering on a board. I usualy do quick short sprints when skateboarding to do tricks. Since riding my dinghy im finding it very high of the ground and too responsive with the slightest turn. My board did an unintended 90 degree turn when i put a bit of pressure on my heel side not good if a pedestrian was coming towards me D: At least i know what to look for now when buying.

@Ogden Sikel Thanks for the video. Your movement looks already pretty good but there is still space for a lot of improvement. You can work with only feets, only legs, only core body, only shoulder and who guessed it only arms. When you combine all factores you become a little god in pumping. There is a nice Video of Vlad Popov who did a great job of how do well with your body to accelerate your longboard. I know how hard it is to teach someone to get the idea of pumping right. But I also want to mention something very important you didn't state (please correct me If I just didn't catch it up in your video): Wheelbites: Guys!!! Please care about your health. Most longboards are not intended to be that much pressured like it is happening when pumping. I started myself with a drop-through longboard and it becomes very likely that when you get too confident with pumping that you run into wheelbites because you hit the cut-outs of a drop-through longboard or the longboard itself in case of a top-mount longboard. A wheelbite occurs when the wheel is touching the longboard. And you can guess what happened to me after getting too confident... I fell very badly two or three times, but to my luck I am a god doing great rolls so I didn't got any injuries. > So if interested in pumping and I mean real pumping, then please riser your longboard properly to prevent wheelbites. You can test it by standing at the very left or right side of the longboard with all your weight and when you get stopped by the wheels it gets very likely you run into wheelbites. When preasuring your weight while riding there is more force than you could test with only your weight, so please consider this too. :) @Ogden Sikel So the most important question is: was that just a wheelbite? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qKefl8mIy7atiac.html ? :D PS: I surely would not ever ride with a "normal" longboard anymore. At some point you have to decide if you want to make it professional (hard learning and long distance pumping oriented setup) or you just want have some fun. I just tell you this, because the above instructions are based on many years of experience where I started with a normal longboard and and ended with a high end setup and a lot more knowledge) and I hope someone will read the above and prevent any injuries to himself. :)

Wheel size and hardness recommended? And for bushings (I’m 75 kilos)?
@OgdenSikel

I like the orangatang stimulus 70mm 86a personally. Not too hard, not too squishy. For bushings, maybe 85a or 87a? I don’t like super squishy bushings.

I'm not as good as him but I've been longboarding for 5years. As for the wheels - depending on your board, but as a general rule... The bigger the more comfortable! Obviously also faster but harder to accelerate. Anywhere between 68/70 to 80mm is good, but again: if you're at risk of wheel bite play it safe. Hardness depends on you're planning to do with it. In general, for anything except freeriding, I'd say go as soft as you can because there's really no reason not to. Unless you want to slide with it, then it's a completely different story Bushings... ahah it's complicated. Want to go fast? 90/95A double barrels are your friends. Want to have fun on flat? I'm using 85As double cones. Want a good all around? Something like an 85 mix (one barrel, one cone) is probably a good choice. Consider that the boards length will influence the feeling of the turns anyway, so giving advice is really hard. Best advice I can give you: invest €10 more and get more choices ;) Sorry for the long reply

@@61percentodicarica Thanks for your insights! Bushings have always seemed unnecessarily complicated so your thoughts on them were really nice!

Found my best setup (drop through 37” with Paris truck v3) with 70 mm wheels 78a, double cone bushings 90A; thanks everybody for your time!

If you focus on twisting your hips and arms together staying on the board you will get the feeling

Maybe a little? I don’t think it would work that we. Though. The more carvy the board the easier it is to do

I gotta try this. You say one should reverse the trucks? And it’s ok to leave them that way for other uses?
@OgdenSikel
@OgdenSikel 3 жыл бұрын
No no, I have trucks on my longboard called “reverse kingpin” trucks. They’re different from your standard and are made for cruising typically (my cruiser has regular so not all boards). So yeah don’t reverse your standard but just k ow that you can purchase reverse kingpins

You say that rkps are best for pumping, but then you said that the dinghy is made for pumping and it has tkps, right?
