It is wild where winging is heading. I stumbled across a channel called JD 'Followcam' and he is flying his quadcopter around wingers on Maui. There are these kids out there doing really clean back flips, what looks like a combo between a front flip and barrel roll, getting insane altitude and pulling off TWO(!) rotations in the air. Check out 'Epic wing session at Kanaha Beach' it is so amazing, you have to wear a helmet to keep your mind from exploding in all directions. Trust me on this one.

Your videos, all of them, are very very useful. Thank you for your clear explanations, thank you very much for the videos. Now i am doing my first flights with the foil up and it seems a super heavy sport. I kitesurf for more than 20 years, and before I windsurf. Could it be the firsts sessions on kite were very tired, but do not remember and I was 20 years younger ... but now in this moments Wingsurf seems to me very close to windsurf in heavy days..... It destroy my forearms. Is it just at the beginning or will it always be like this? So I have a question: this sport in terms of bodywork is heavy as windsurf or more like kitesurf? I can kite two hours in heavy conditions (one hour very well and the second not too well) and anohter question: you can Wingsurf one hour or two without going to the beach to rest as in kitesurf or is more as windsurf were to rest each half hour is needed? Thank you for your time, (and excuse my english).
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Just in the beginning your forearms will hurt as its all new and you are using all muscle and bad technique! It's everyone including myself. Wingfoiling is a little more upper body I think than kitesurfing but if you add a harness line you can ride for hours just like a kite. Also can ride for hours without when you get better.

@@DamienLeroyKZfaq Yes, when pumping with arms and feet, I cannot avoid to sink the nose of the board a little when I press on the leading foot, and that slows me. However my feet are where the strap inserts are located and foot position feels ok when not pumping. In your opinion, is this normal (and to be expected to a certain extent)? Or should I find a way to avoid this?
@DamienLeroyYouTube

@@javierguergue3685 Its normal and happens. You will get more efficient and faster to get the nose to climb. Only a thought but maybe you mast is to far back in the board, and is keeping the nose form coming up. A thought......

I windsurf. Probably you guys do too, so you know that in light wind, it's possible to pump yourself up onto a plane, just like you're doing here to get onto foil, but it's preferrable to go out in stronger wind, where you don't need to. So I have some questions: If there's strong, steady wind, do you have to pump with your arms and legs at all? For example, can you use a large wing, trim it into the wind to get you moving at a decent clip, and then ease up onto foil? If so, do you still weight the nose of the board or will the foil just lift you up with minimal weight shifting? And if you're using a large sail, are you then overpowered once you are up on foil? Or do you need the pumping action with your arms to get the wing to lift you, and with your legs to get the foil to create lift? I would think it's not necessary for the wing, since it would be similar to a windsurfing sail, but I'm not so sure about the foil and how it interacts with the water. The reason I ask is because I have a bad knee. Just kneeling will probably be uncomfortable, and going from kneeling to standing will be even tougher. And then pumping looks hard on the knees too.
@apricotscrub
@apricotscrub Жыл бұрын
You should look into windsurf foil as you are already a windsurfer. The answer is in strong winds u don't need to pump to get on foil, it will rise naturally, but unhave to have the right weight on ur back and front legs so the foil rises and steadies.
@NeoVdV
@NeoVdV Жыл бұрын
I suppose you remember my other questions under other videos. Still not got on foil. Now here, ... so ... with my big 145 lit would you recommend, or not, putting the front foot straps ? Also, where pumping what's the body placement and the hip turn ? When I pump even 2-3 times I need to stop because to far downwind and I would run the board into the wing.
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube Жыл бұрын
I would say try the straps it if you have not as you can potentially lift the nose up to get on foil mid pump. Really drive on that back leg and keep the board as much as you can sideways to the wind when pumping. You kind of crack off when you start to pump the wing but keep driving that bag leg! If you go to straight down wind, no matter how hard you pump you will run into your wing and have no power. Maybe we need a zoom call want to help you brother man!

Today the wind was to strong for me. There were 4 people with a 4m² wing and one with a 5m² The one with the 5m² wing didn't do more then a few meters standing. So no use to go out on the water for me with my 6m² Unfortunately I do not have, nor know someone to borrow from, a 360 camera, else I could send you a short clip of my efforts.

Yeeee some progress today. Whe I had a good wind and could go the right direction (not running into an anchor li e or an windsurfer, ... I was 3x able to get the board off the water for just a few seconds, then crash boom bang and start all over again. So now at least I know where to put the mast in the rails and where to put my feet on the board to get into liftoff mode :-)

What are your thought on wing size? I see you are doing this video on a size 4 wing with barely any wind... i have a 6.8/5.5/4.5. While the 6.8 does feel more powerful once on foil i feel it's significantly harder to pump than my 5.5. Whats your wing size recommendation for light wind days considering getting up on foil is the main challenge.
@obvioustrash7833
@obvioustrash7833 2 жыл бұрын
The bigger the wing, the harder it gets to pump. Im 1.76m and my 6m feels enormous and hard to pump without the tips touching the water after a few pumps. The best advice i can give for big wing pumping is to 1. Keep it as high as possible and 2. Try to shift your hands a bit towards the back of the strut for pumping. Makes it so you dont touch water as fast.
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 2 жыл бұрын
Well the only reason Gwen was on a 4m was he had a larger board with high volume and his skill is very good. Also when the lulls hit he was sitting a lot. He was testing it as the smaller the wing the easier it is to flip as long as you can get on foil! I would say in general 5 minimum up to -8m depending on your ability is doable in light winds. You have a great quiver and if you feel your 5.5 is better run with it! Our most used wing is a 5m..... Those 6m wings for sure save the sessions when the winds are very very light.
