In todays video I show you HOW TO PUT COOLANT IN YOUR CAR. This may seem very easy but it's something that a lot of people can mess up. I like to call it COOLANT but it is also called ANTIFREEZE. I am using my 2015 KIA OPTIMA as an example. EACH CAR IS DIFFERENT!!! You can never assume that your car takes the same COOLANT as another car. Domestic cars take different COOLANT than Asian cars. I like to use 50/50 premixed COOLANT aka ANTIFREEZE when topping off my COOLANT TANK. I would recommend this over 100% COOLANT because one can never be to sure they are getting the right water to COOLANT ratio. In the video you will see that I teach you not to over fill your tank and to make sure you are pouring the COOLANT in the right area. Sometimes people get the windshield water tank mixed up with the COOLANT AKA ANTIFREEZE TANK. If you do this, it could cause a major problem down the road. Always ask your local auto store or dealer what type of COOLANT AKA ANTIFREEZE you should use. I just liked that the guy is actually spending time with his son, teaching him properly... not just about auto service, but, if you listen closely he mentioned the idea of his son being the protector to his mother if they were stuck somewhere.. his father is teaching him to be a man. hahaha that made me laugh out loud lol. I told my wife. But you prolly got bigger problems if you have a kia sorento. Do you have the ksds? if not you def wont get that engine replaced when it goes out.

@@StraightOuttaContent I got 6 year warranty on the car through the KIA dealership but the check engine light came on and I ran a diagnostic and it came back as a P2181 cooling system performance so I did a coolant flush and added new coolant which made the check engine light disappear but I’m taking it to Carmax on Saturday and getting a RAV4 lol

Something I would like to add to your coolant choice. The color of the coolant is just a die coloring. Prestone coolant which primarily is yellow in color is totally compatable with Hyundai / Kia vehicles. The color is what the manufacturer picks for their vehicles. The compatibility of the coolant is what’s the most important in adding coolant. Very good vehicle and great to see your teaching your son about cars. Note that Prestone does make colored coolant for those that are color sensitive for their vehicles.

Best thing about the video is seeing a dad show his son how to add fluid to a car. I don’t have a son but ever since she was young every time I worked on my car I showed her how to do it. She’s 17 turning 18 in a month, but so far we’ve done the front and rear brakes, oil changes alternator and battery replacement and adding fluids.

Remember if he has a Kia he needs to get that ksds before that engine goes out. If the engine fails and he doesn't have the ksds installed then they won't replace it. Definitely check out all my other videos on this subject and my main automotive channel @carlsgarage for more information

So I have a 23 kia Sportage and the coolant is now below the low level line. In the manual under "adding coolant" section, it says "if coolant level is low, add distilled (deionized) or soft water to max level. Do not overfill". So am I just adding distilled water here? Because in other parts of the manual under recommended lubricant it says a mixture of distilled water and antifreeze.

This happened to me yesterday. Colant was very low. Was changed and not filled completely (other story). I filled coolant to full cause car was starting to overheat. Car cooled down but didn't take coolant into radiator. Pulled over and added more past full. Still overheated and wouldn't pull coolant from reservoir. Had to add to radiator. Helped but still had to add more to radiator this morning. No leaks, car is good now. Why does it not pull fluid from the tank and I had to add to radiator. Was a long ride home last night cause I had to keep pulling over.

Thanks for posting this fellow Houstonian! Do you ever have issues with your motor oil burning off due to buildup in your KIA. I have a 2011 turbo and have to keep topping mine off.

I asked the kia dealership and they said they can do some kind of a flush for 400 🙈 and my local trusted mechanic said there is no guarantee but they can also do something similar for 150. Have you done anything like this ?

The autozone near me has that coolant for Asian vehicles but it’s a different container and it says Kia 1990 and up. I’m confused now lol

On a car that knew you should be getting it from the dealer. But you have a lot more problems with that Kia than coolant. I cover a lot of Kia recalls.

Lol if you have a Kia forte, you have a lot bigger problems than the coolant color. I suggest you check out some of my other videos on Kias. Dropping a new one right now.

Asian green coolant for Hyundai and Kia, it says it on the bottle what car brands and years they’re for. Asian red is for Toyotas and a few others.

Antifreeze is 100% concentrate. Coolant is the pre mixed 50/50 blend of antifreeze and deionized water.
