expository sermons are the absolutely best. you learn, you apply, you grow. always far more interesting than topical sermons which these days are more like motivational speaking

I think we shouldn't discard topical sermon entirely. Both expository and topical sermons have their place when feeding the flock.

How to Put Together an Expository Sermon - Dr. Lawson Observation - What does this passage say on a macro and micro level? Interpretation - What does this Passage mean? - (Hermeneutics - Interpreting the literature of the Bible) Application - What are the timeless principles and it's implications. How can one apply this passage Unification - What is the dominant theme in this passage - THE BIG IDEA - There should be one dominant theme or one BIG point. Formation - There has to be structure (headings/main points) that revolve around the BIG IDEA. Illustrations - To help people relate Introduction and Conclusion - To draw the listener about the importance of why they should listen and you should end with impact and emotion

I A.m blessed by Dr. Lawson’s life. He is genuine christian, he lives What he teaches. He remains humble as I watch and him from a distance. I just listen to his preaching through the ligonier ministries and others. I don’t know him personally. I have‘ NT been to a ligonier conference or Masters seminary conference. I a.m from the Philippines and I consider myself to belong to the Reformed faith. The passing away of Dr. R.c. Sproul was a giant loss to the Reformed theology or faith that is now growing In different parts of the world. I a.m glad Dr. Lawson stayed with the Ligonier ministries. The Lord continues to use him mightily In his Ministry.

Thank you for not sugarcoating our reality here in the United States. We are in a very rapid moral and social decline. Evil is good, good is evil. We believers need to keep our eyes fixed on Christ.

My grandfather, who lived during the 30s, 40s, etc., told me that "church," as the community saw it, was entirely different than it is today. His pastor was paid very little and worked as a handyman. The church did preach, but did also REACH out to the community and not just in words. The poor were given food. Some had home repairs done. Unemployed guys would get some work until they got a better job. He said that the community and the church were integrated together. People respected Christianity and many came to the Lord. We're not washing people's feet any more. Preach all you want. Talk about it all you want. People in this country are tuning out because we're preaching but not reaching.

The state of the church is exactly where it's at because it forgot its main job: preaching the Word of God.

Is there an inspired way (heaven ordained way) to prepare an expository sermon? I have read about multiple approaches.
@allensagalla63405 жыл бұрын
fedoracore321 For as long as the approach requires you to carefully study the Scriptures, that is a good way of doing an expository sermon

Do the ilustrations have to be on every parts of the sermón? or only on the aplication? Blessings and thank you.
@SimpleManGuitars19734 жыл бұрын
They work in every part but the application is a really good way to drive home the point. Adrian Rogers was a master of application by illustration and he loved illustrations so much that I once saw him teaching a group of younger preachers and he was driving home the point that they needed to be readers and he said to read 3 books a week and that if you spent $20 on a book that you didn't really like but it had just ONE good illustration then it was WELL worth the investment. Illustrations are definitely great learning tools.

I like preachers illustrating sermons using other scriptures. Also using quick metaphors. What I don't like to sit through is preachers telling stories about themselves all the time.

This is primarily only the later part of his talk: Micro & macro Tip of the spear. (central point, central theme) Formation (Headings, structure) (stated or unstated) (lots analogies, images for the need for structure) Illustrations (don't just tell, show them) Introduction Conclusion PS. Ashish Mathew did a much better job
