Thank you VERY MUCH for making this and the other informative videos that you put together. I just acquired my dad's elegant pool table and I want to change the color of the felt. I was worried that I would have to take it to a professional to have it done but after watching your videos, I won't have to. You make the end results look as though a professional HAS done it. Thanks for the x-tra bonus tips scattered throughout your videos too. Will definitely be referring back to them again.

Great clips guys. I will be following these guides to level the table and recloth the table and rails My simonis 860 has the writing on edge of the cloth...IWAN SIMONIS 860 and the signature. With an 8ft table there is enough for the head and foot rails to have this showing on the angled cushions Do you advise to not use these (in case I screw up the dimensions and it looks odd) or would you advise to go for it....."why not?". Also I suppose there is another possibility. The reason it is there is to do exactly this (unsure if this was just to show genuity but it is supposed to be the edge that gets yanked, stapled and cut off). Obviously I have the complete cloth and need to cut the rail bits myself.
@AverageJoesPool
@AverageJoesPool 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, go for it! It will look nice will the logo rails. That's a logo you want on your table!! Take your time and measure everything very carefully first. Don't rush, think it out carefully, and double-check all measurements and you'll be fine! Best of luck with th install!

@@AverageJoesPool many thanks for your advice. Unfortunately I have already installed the cloth and decided against it. In hindsight, I think it would have been fine. I found the rails to be far easier than I thought and easier than the table cloth to install. The cloth turned out really good. The middle pockets were heart wrenching. I have noticed that there is a small amount of slack around the middle pockets area. Nothing disastrous, but there are some waves there when you run a pushed finger around the area. Any advice for getting rid of that. IE, I would need to move one staple at a time to make any corrections to get rid of it, but which ones. From the table sides or directly below where ripples are on the curve of the pocket?

Hi, I thanked you yesterday for successfully felt'ng my table. Is there any other trick to fold the felt for the corner pockets? I'm having difficulty smoothing the felt over the corner. I have so much material left it is leaving very thick creases.
@AverageJoesPool
@AverageJoesPool Жыл бұрын
Hey there! There's o real trick to it. As long as you have not overstretched the material, then you should not have excess left over and it usually folds well. It's important not to overstretch the cloth on the rails over the rubber bumpers, as this can lead to dead spots in the rubber rails (as explained in the video). Assuming you have overstretched and just kept things snug but not tight, then the fold should be possible. Just make sure the first part of the fold goes right up underneath the second part which will fold over the first. If the first part is not tucked right up inside flush with the edge, then when you fold back down over it for the second part then you could have too much material. Hope that helps!! :-)

They are different and so do require a slightly different method/approach unfortunately. Stick with it, once you get the knack once the remaining corners get easier every time!! Best of luck with it!

What should i do when putting the new felt around the feather strip, the feather strip is really hard to get back into the grove and protrudes out. It fit nice (not to loose or to snug) without the felt in, but now it seems to hard to press down with the felt in. Should i try hammering it with the rubber mallet and block? Just dont wanna hit it to hard…

I have 18oz accuplay cloth and the side pockets, when folded in this way, seem to be too much material and I fear they will deliver an uneven bounce on the pocket facing side. Do you suggest a different method for finishing the side pockets with a thicker felt non-worsted felt?
@AverageJoesPool
@AverageJoesPool 15 сағат бұрын
Hey there! The method remains the same regardless of the cloth thickness (weight). You could try playing around with the fold itself. If it's not crisp enough then you can get excess material. You could try putting a thin metal rule into the fold to push the material in deeper and nice a nice crisp and sharp fold. Hope that helps 👍

@AverageJoesPool
@AverageJoesPool Жыл бұрын
Hi there! It sounds like you may have stretched the cloth too tight over the rail rubber. It is possible to 'deaden' the bounce of the rail if the cloth is too tight, so it is important not to fit it too tightly during installation, as explained in the video. All of your videos have been helpful to me except for this one. I can’t figure out the corners at all. Not enough info on how to do the corners. I have about 3” of felt hanging over each side of the rail. Am I suppose to cut the felt flush with the ends or an inch hangover or what? Bc I can’t get the first fold figured out
@AverageJoesPool
@AverageJoesPool Жыл бұрын
Hey there, sorry to hear you are having issues. The folding for the ends is covered at 17:02 and 22:35 onwards in the video. Maybe you have a different type of rail to the ones we are working on in this video?? Do your rail look identical to the ones in the video? All of the info you need is in the video, which is why I'm thinking maybe you have a different rail type? There are a few variations, what we have here is probably the most common type for home tables. We hope you get it worked out, best of luck!!
@jordaneischen9924
@jordaneischen9924 Жыл бұрын
I had trouble with the corners as well, you kind of just have to feel it out, taking up the excess material little by little underneath on the staple side, while focusing on smoothing out the cloth on the rail, if it starts to wrinkle on the rail, back up a bit until it’s smooth, add a staple, repeat.

@ 13:27 to @ 14:27 I thought you somehow damaged your fingernails. I had to go back and listen and sure enough you mentioned that your partner's help was appreciated. His painted fingernails are very pretty. So this video can be titled rails and nails recovered.

Hey there! How much does this process cost? Well this video is designed to show you how to do it yourself, but if you wanted a professional to visit your home and re-cloth your table it would likely be several hundred dollars. The prices do vary quite a bit, anywhere from $200 lower end to $600 upper end is realistic (for the full table). Hope that helps! --- To help support us (for both you and others reading this) there are a few things you can do: 1) Donations both needed and welcome!
