Do you think you could do a video on either making an outdoor pool table or converting a pool table to be used outdoors. Different (waterproof cloths) different sides, avoiding materials that would that or degrade in the outdoors etc

Realistically, if a cue is straight, solid, and has a good tip on it, there's not much more you can ask of a cue. If you're paying upwards of $300 for any cue, you're paying for exotic wood inlays, exotic artwork, the mystic of a private cue maker, or just the name of a cue making company. You will not play better with a $1200 cue than you will with a $100 cue, even if you think you will.

Great review! Another thing to note that I’ve learned over the years is the sport wraps degrade, harden and eventually start to break apart and are generally quite expensive to replace. I love their feel when new but can’t buy them anymore due to the limited lifespan of the wrap.

@AverageJoesPool I'm a new pre-owned pool table owner. I've been told that I need a machinist level to level the slates correctly. Your video is in direct contradiction of that claim. Does the carpenter's level work well enough? I really don't want to spend $270 for a tool that I'll use maybe twice. Thanks for your video and hopefully response.
@AverageJoesPool8 күн бұрын
Hey there! This particular video is designed for people who want to set up a cheap used table without having to spend hundreds of dollars paying someone to level it for them, or buying expensive equipment they may never use again. Yes, you are correct - the use of a machinist level is the PERFECT tool for levelling pool table slates (this is mentioned in the video). A machinist level is far, far, FAR more accurate than carpenter levels and will definitely give a better overall result. That said, you can get a decent enough result using carpenters levels provided you use decent levels and spend time checking carefully in all directions. It's a subject you can get lost in because when it's down to machinist levels we're in thousandths on an inch, and you can even level out imperfections in the slate face (low spots) because it's so accurate. We've filmed a full guide one how to level using a Machinist Level and it's awaiting editing currently. It's a BIG video as it's a very complex procedure and so it will likely be a few months before it arrives at least. Hope this is of some help! 👍

If anyone is considering a lucky cue by McDermott or this, dont make the mistake to buy a lucky cue if you are ever worry about warpage , Valhalla cue is life time warranty, all you pay for is shipping cost. But McDermott does not ever cover warpage, only other minor defects , joint or pin imperfection. The cost to ship to McDermott and warpage repair is about $80 u might as well buy different cue at that point or have local fix it for you… Just my 2 cents, I already made the mistake of buying a Lucky cue I just hope it play well for few years before needed to replace.
@AverageJoesPool5 күн бұрын
Yes, there are pro's and con's for both for sure. The Lucky does not cover warpage, and the Valhalla can only be replaced once (according to the warranty pages on both). Maybe we'll run a Lucky vs Valhalla video in the future comparing the two head-to-head! Thank you for your input and sharing your experiences 👍

I knoe it's knit picking, but I'm dissapointed with the out of the box first impression. Even on the Lucky & Star series, the QC is usually top notch. If I spent notth of $400 on a cue (and I have) I'm going to be dissapointed when I open my brand new cue and it already has finger prints and a minor imperfections in the grip. I know no one is perfect, but this is out of form for McDermott (and its subsidiaries). I personally like the understated appearance.

I played a lot of pool when I was younger. I started on a Player's cue and my mother got me a Lucasi for my birthday when I was 14. I played avidly into my early twenties but kind of put it down. This Christmas she again got me a cue, this time a McDermott Star S72. I was very surprised at the quality and shot of a relatively low range cue. So much so in fact. I bought a G Core shaft used for it and it is still my main playing cue. I intend to get a Defy shaft for it, that's how much I like it. I can't recommend them enough as a good amateur cue.

After having my cue re-shafted with a I-Pro slim shaft and navigator pro max tip I switched from 1080 chalk to the V10 and love it. it's clean unlike the 1080 and hooks up great. yes it less forgiving then the 1080 but a 13mm tip is less forgiving then a 12. Yes, you're definitely not alone there. Opinion is divided on whether the traditional colors (like this Crown set) or newer TV-orientated colors are better. Thankfully Aramith make standard as well as TV color versions of most of their sets that have the TV color options, so if you prefer traditional those are also available. And for their cheaper sets, like this Crown set, they use traditional colors as standard with no TV option. Hope that helps! 👍

Yes, agree 100%! That's what we should have been seeing, but didn't! Maybe the striking of the cue ball disperses the chalk further and into finer powder than when we noted the tip tap.
