I'm on the same path bro. Great job. I'm a drummer but play a little guitar now. How about the "Boo Fighters" nah I should rehash my old bands name "KNUCKLE SANDWICH", always loved that name. Seriously though, I'm undecided on learning the bass and doing vocals. Definitely writing lyrics at least...

one suggestion: Generally we record a scratch with the whole band together, then we go again with each individual instrument. At the end just delete the scratch and we r done :)

Well, it's really just a plugin that renders a file, but does the job. I prefer a nice integrated metronome in a DAW so you can quickly change things, but by all means you should work with whatever you have

Nice video for absolute beginners. I would just like to add, in place of the metronome track, the band can first try to do a "rough" recording of everyone jamming/playing the song as they would normally would. Doesnt have to be high quality, just good enough that everyone is content with the tempo, timings, etc. Then the drummer, or who ever records first can use that as a guide. That way, it would still be pretty organic, not too robotic like playing with a fixed tempo, and the drummer would have better idea on where he actually is in the song. That's because i have jammed and recorded some artist who sometimes use certain words in the lyrics as queues on what they are going to do next.

The only bits I would slightly contend with are: 1. I know you're aware of it, but I wouldn't consider it too advanced to give the advice to make a scratch track and play that through the drummer's headphones while he records first. For the uninitiated, record the whole band through the mic as per the first method, and then play that through the drummer's headphones so he hears the whole band while he records his part doing the second method. 2. If you're a band, you probably already have at least one stage microphone and XLR cables. An interface isn't a bad idea since it's the only piece you should be missing. If you have several mics, you might have a shot of better drum sound with the interface since you can separate the pieces. If the band has just a little more technical knowledge, you can reamp if the guitars record through a Scarlett (output while initially recording through the speaker outs). Overall, all good stuff.

I think the most important thing isn't covered at all. If all the instruments start at the same time, how do you know when to begin playing? Does every drummer click his sticks together in the studio? There has to be a professional "sound engineer" way to start a song suddenly.
@ThatSarahChick94
@ThatSarahChick94 3 жыл бұрын
Let the click track play for a bar, then start playing your instrument when recording. Then the next instrument do the same. When you delete click track all instruments will start at the same time.

For the guys wondering how to record the video part, it's simple.... Play your audio track in background and act like you are playing the instrument or singing the song (playing you audio track in background is important because it'll help you maintain the tempo). Then just record every single instrument and vocals one by one with any decent camera.... That's how you record a music video..... And for the editing stuff, there are so many softwares (premiere pro, final cut Pro, or if you are a beginner then wondershare filmora will do the job). Just align your video tracks with each other, and put the background music, and you're done

Studios actually use proffesional gear to record multiple tracks at once. So neighter one microphone in center or one instrument at a time, they actually can play all together at the same time, but the instruments and vocals go each in their separate channels. These channels are then balanced and mixed together.
