There are 3 main ways you can get a great recording of your electric guitar on your computer, via a suitable guitar recording interface: record direct; record the line out of your guitar amp; or use a mic to record your amp. This video will show you how to record your electric guitar in PC, Mac or iPad step-by-step in each of these three ways. This is a recording tutorial for guitarists who complete beginners to home studio recording. It is not an advanced video on recording. But by the end you will know exactly what guitar recording gear you need, and the basics of how to set it up.
The focus in this video is on the guitar recording GEAR that you need. The best studio equipment to do the job. It is about recording hardware rather than software
If you get the hardware right then you can use any Recording Software: Pro Tools; Cubase; Garageband; Reaper; Mixcraft; Audacity.

To record your guitar direct you will need:
Electric Guitar and Guitar Lead
A suitable Audio Interface with instrument input

Any recording software - Garageband, Reaper, Audacity, Pro Tools, Cubase, Presonus Studio, the software that comes with your interace
To record guitar via the line output of your guitar amp you will need:
Electric Guitar plugged into effects pedals and guitar amp
Audio Interface with line input

Appropriate audio cable - depending on the outputs of your amp
Recording software (see above)
To record electric guitar using a microphone to record the guitar amp you will need:
Electric guitar plugged into your effects pedals and amp
An audio interface with XLR mic input and built in pre-amp
