Here's a tutorial on how to record samples (sample events) in your FA06/08 sequencer. This is also the only way I know of that you can trigger samples with the FA06 keyboard rather than the sample pads.

I've had FA07 for years. It's a bit menu divey but I like most of the sounds. I use it more often with a computer DAW or MPC Live 2 because it's a little easier to edit, arrange, and sequence outside of the FA especially if you're adding other external stuff (guitar, vocals, etc.).

I hear ya on that one, menu divey is a good way to descibe it.

Hello, would it be possible to record sample of a guitare line when hearing a midi record and then play the record off guitar with the pads? Then it would be like an audio track? Possible to synchronise all of these?

Thanks very much for the tutorial! I just got an FA-07 and I'm breaking in the sequencer. I love the workflow on this machine! This is my first Roland after recently upgrading from a Triton Extreme (another great keyboard). Question : Is there any way to add effects to the pad track? (real time cutoff adjust, reverb) or does that have to be done in the DAW?
@jawnyb2

I'm sure you can assign effects to that track the same way you would any other track.

Just bought an FA 06 and am lovin it1 Recorded a few sequences so far,and have done the 1st one with an actuak sample. I've recorded and played it on track 16,set to 'pad', yet when I try to export a stereo track, (or stems for that matter) the sample isnt in the mix! Do I HAVE TO go into a DAW to lay the sample in? I wanted to at least export a stereo mix to be able to listen to in the car. Any suggestions as to what I'm not doing (or doing wrong) wouldbe GREATLY appreciated.... LOVE FROM STOCKHOLM SWEDEN!!!

This sampler has been knocking around since the late 90s, the same one that's on the SP series only here you get waveform display for trimming. I like the fast copying of samples on these, which makes resampling fx easy. A nice add on. Be nice if you had at least eq or filter per pad like the drum editing, I'm assuming it is just one insert for the pad track and sends ?

I apologize if this question has been asked already, but I too have been very interested in purchasing this keyboard, and I do a lot with sampling with the cover band I play in, and shot an email to a Roland Rep about being able to load/assign samples to the pads (like the video here), and then mapping them to keys on the keyboard, and he said it could be done. He did not mention that it could only be done in Sequencer mode. I have a set of Studiologic MIDI pedals (MP117) that I currently use with my Korg Triton LE76 (sampling board and 64mb memory included), and love how I can load samples and map them to any key over the entire keyboard. Only downside is it's an older (though greatly reliable) keyboard, only 64mb capacity, and the loading time of samples/songs can seem "slow" at times. The FA-06 is in my price range I'd like to spend, compared to the other pricey workstations out there. So has anybody ever tried what I've listed and had it work? That is the last thing I wanted to find information out on before I possibly bought one. Thanks for any information you can provide!
@jawnyb2
@jawnyb2 8 жыл бұрын
I went from a Triton classic to the FA06 and the loading and playback of samples is pretty easy in the fa06. Unless they've done a major update though, this is the only way to map samples to keys. I ended up getting a Kronos so that I could key map and time slice etc with my samples again.
@dnut2112
@dnut2112 8 жыл бұрын
With the Kronos, can samples be loaded into the keyboard and be written into memory (think hard drive) and be accessed after turning the keyboard off/back on, and the mappings are saved also, and they can be deleted and replaced with new ones ect. etc.? That is one thing I'm not too familiar with too, I've seen keyboard workstations that say they have internal hard drives, but am unsure if any of them allow that feature or if the samples still have to be loaded only into temporary RAM, then accessed that way. Maybe the Kronos does what I'm asking, if not, would you happen to know of any keyboards that do that? Would love to get to the point of being able to load samples and not have to worry about reloading them every time I want to use them like I do with the Triton LE. Thanks again for any information!
@jawnyb2
@jawnyb2 8 жыл бұрын
dnut2112 You can do this with the Kronos. It has a solid state HD that you can save the samples onto. For mine I create multisamples, convert them to programs then save the sample data on the HD. Then in global you can assign that sample data to load on boot up. Booting takes longer on the Kronos, but you can assign it to preload whatever you want when it boots, so your samples are always available.

Thanks for this video. I was wondering if your could play back the pad samples from the sequencer. Now for question two. When you load a new sequence, do the samples associated with the sequence automatically load with it, or do you have to load the samples associated with the sequence manually? I want to make different sequences for each song in the set list and trigger background vocal samples for the songs. Is that possible? thanks in advance for the help.
@jawnyb2
@jawnyb2 7 жыл бұрын
You can record and play back pad sounds in the sequencer. You just have to set the track to the pad. See 2:30 in this video. The pads load based on the song you have loaded so each song you'll have a different set of pads.

Did you even watch this video?? 🤦‍♂️ In the sequencer on the left you will see all your midi tracks: pianos, strings, drums, etc. You can highlight the word MIDI and change it to PAD on any track. Then from there you can record any samples from the pads into your sequence/song.

@jawnyb2 9 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's true, if you try playing a fifth sample simultaneously it cuts out one or more of the previous samples you're triggering. Strange considering that you can play 16 tracks of audio back in the sequencer. Paul Horsley
@LOFI911
@LOFI911 9 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. The cutting out of the previous triggered samples right after triggering the fifth, the sixth and so on is even more annoying. Not to mention that you can't even map samples across the keyboard! So many limitations...Someone should tell Roland this is 2015, not late 80s : )

From what I can tell, it's just not possible to trigger samples that way on the FA06. You could maybe put the sample in multiple pads and change the octave of each pad.

nope this keyboard is nothing like the ensoniq ASR 10, if that's what you're asking, I know it is lol, that's the first and only question i ask about every single keyboard that comes out, I don't know what the hell all these companies are waiting for, still to this day, the ensoniq asr 10 is the superior sampling keyboard to them all, it's just slow workflow, and ancient, gotta have that old school patients. Just about every producer int he world are asking for a new keyboard that's like the ASR 10 or better, the closest one since has been the roland DJ 70 mkii, the korg trition late 90's early 2000's, then korg even came out with the korg microsampler that works like the asr 10 in several ways, but the sound quality is kinda garbage, the microsampler doesn't give you that warmth. If you have either, Logic Pro X, or FL studio, I can show you how to use them just like an asr 10, all u need is a midi keyboard, or unless your fa-06 or 8 is midi control capable also.

yeah i love the original korg triton ,that has a sampler similar to the asr 10, the asr 10 is still king, but it's just ancient, gotta have a lot of patients with the slow work flow on it, but i only needed it for a few different features, how it sampled and mapped the samples over every key at a different note. I haven't tried the kronos x yet.
