I have a campark 45 camera and like you have thousands of video clips. My camera looks remarkably similar to yours so I guess from the same manufacturer. I spend a lot of time reviewing the nightly footage of my 4 regular hoggie visitors . It is very rewarding to see their antics, inside and outside the feeding station. I like the transparent crates so you can see them when they are feeding. I also have two sleeping boxes but they are not occupied at the moment. I’m hoping they will hibernate in them. I also feel that I am looking out for any problems that they might have, like ticks etc. So far there has only been one casualty, a young hog who had lost a leg and had to be put to sleep due to infection . Thanks for all your information videos. I am a member of the Hedgehog highways Facebook group which has masses of helpful information.

Hello Jenny, Thank you for your comment. It does seem that many of the infra red cameras look very similar, but it's entirely possible that ours are from the same manufacturer. Like you, my houses are all completely empty just at the moment, but that at least gives me a quiet period of time to clean them out in preparation for autumn and the return of my visitors. I've been fortunate to not have any injuries or mishaps with any of my hedgehog visitors, but agree - the night cameras are an excellent way to also monitor the health of the various hogs. Thanks for visiting and commenting - I hope you continue to enjoy the content.

I like to watch your videos and learn a lot about hedgehogs' lives from them, and it helps me a lot. I saved 5 little hedgehogs, they cut their mother with a lawn mower, so I took them to the garden and I feed every day. we have built houses for them but they do not sleep there every day. we also installed a photo trap, eat goes but I don't know if all five or just some.

Hi Jirina, It's great that you've rescued the hedgehogs. If you are concerned at all, try to see if there's a local hedgehog rescue or hospital near by to where you live that might be able to help or offer you any advice you might need. Hedgehogs can be fussy - I know that even when I've had hedgehogs seemingly move in a stay in one of the houses, they can simply move out for seemingly no reason. Also, hedgehogs can be quite solitary, so you may need to offer more houses, or suitable areas in your garden where a hedgehog could settle and build a house.

@@HedgehogsHollow We will build a few more houses, I think that if they eat well they will manage the winter. I will be happy to send some photos or videos if you are interested. I think it is an Eastern or Western hedgehog, ie a European species, and since we are in the middle of Europe, both species are possible

Keep feeding them - I'm sure they will be fine as there's still a bit of time before winter. I will do a video in the future about what size hedgehogs are healthy enough to sustain hibernating through winter, but for now there is enough time for them to grow - and they do grow quickly.

@@HedgehogsHollow I know they should have about 600g, before hibernation. so keep your fingers crossed that they can handle it.

Hi Mike, I have just ordered two hedgehog houses for my garden, would you recommend using rechargeable batteries in the camera you use ? I’m loving your super informative videos! I feel I’m getting such a fabulous education on these beautiful creatures 🦔
@HedgehogsHollow
@HedgehogsHollow 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sammy, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment and for your kind words. I would absolutely recommend rechargeable batteries. They might be more expensive initially, but they pay for themselves many times over very quickly. I am still using the same set of batteries that I have had for more than 2 years, and simply recharge them as required. In busy periods when your camera is triggered by a lot of activity, you could very easily find yourself using up a set of 4 batteries in a single evening, so I highly recommend rechargeable batteries and a charging unit capable of charging 8 batteries - so your turn around time is much quicker.

The link no longer shows the Apeman camera, have you done an update video? Any other UK places (or Amazon) supplying this device or can you recommend an updated product?
@HedgehogsHollow
@HedgehogsHollow 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Neil. Yes, it would appear that Apeman have possibly left the country or removed themselves from Amazon, as it appears that none, or very little of their stock is available still. I don't have a specific recommendation in place of the camera I have, as I haven't used any other camera to allow me to recommend it with confidence. However, having looked through the listings, it seems like this might be a suitable alternate, should you still be in the market: amzn.to/3jtKRWM

Went for the Apeman H55 myself...had it about 2 months now..... only time it's let me down is when I forgot to check the battery level....PLEASE tell me MIke...on occasion the video will flicker a bit...again does that happen when battery power is getting low ? Just wondering if the H45 camera's that you have give you any tell tail signs ?
@HedgehogsHollow
@HedgehogsHollow 3 жыл бұрын
It may be different on different cameras - when my battery level is getting low the video length decreases - rather than 60 seconds I get progressively shorter videos until the battery is fully depleted

What is the best reasonable priced video camera?
@HedgehogsHollow
@HedgehogsHollow 3 жыл бұрын
There are many cameras available that are suitable for a variety of budgets - the cheaper the camera the fewer the features though, and you'd have to balance what you could afford with what you wanted the camera to do. I only have the one variety and make, and so I only feel qualified to comment with regard to that camera. I think it is probably in the middle of the price range for cameras, and cheaper cameras may not offer the features

How long do the (1.2Volt) rechargeable batteries last? I use Alkaline (1.5Volt) batteries and, by the time their output is down to 1.3Volt, the camera says they are exhausted.
@HedgehogsHollow
@HedgehogsHollow 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam, I haven't monitored the voltage, but I can generally get at least 100 videos of 60 second duration out of the camera on a single charge. There are multiple other factors that come into play, especially temperature, and the batteries don't last nearly as long during Winter filming, as during other times of the year. But I will very often get more than 100 videos out of a charge.

I noticed most of the cams you recommend on your list are wifi. Are you able to see live footage via your wifi connection?
@HedgehogsHollow
@HedgehogsHollow 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Daisy, The wild life cameras went down a "Wi-Fi" route, but this was not always as indicative of the actual functionality as you might think. I investigated a "Wi-Fi" camera once, and it didn't live up to the hype, and I have not myself got one previously. I will be looking at a new camera in the coming months that is completely different and does work through the Wi-Fi connection, allowing you both to see the live feed and transmit recorded footage via the Wi-Fi network, and so I am looking forward to trying that out. If it lives up to expectations I will provide a review for that in the future.

Hi I am feeding cat food kibble to the hedgehog in my garden I am feeding kitten dried food kibble should I keep feeding for kitten or do I give too for adult cat food? Or just continue all the time for feeding the junior one to two months cat food.Thank you for your reply. Patricia
@HedgehogsHollow
@HedgehogsHollow 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Patricia, You can feed the hedgehogs either of the two, either the kitten or adult food. The one thing that the kitten biscuits do have is a size advantage, and perhaps being smaller the smaller hedgehogs can eat easier. That said, I've fed the hedgehogs in the garden adult food without trouble - their small sharp teeth seem to have no problem. So either should be absolutely fine

Thank you so much for your reply.I was afraid that it would be too rich for him but I add now a little about 5grams of thé adult food to the kitten dried kibble makes about total 20 grams and it is all eaten in the morning. But for the first time yesterday I found that the feeding house he had some soft poop left and a second little hedgehog first time visit too yesterday outside the feeding house with him. I was so happy as this is the first time hedgehogs have come to the garden.

Is there a camera with USB recharger rather than batteries?
@HedgehogsHollow
@HedgehogsHollow 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Giuseppina, thank you for your comments and the time to watch and ask questions. I've not ever seen a camera with a USB charger and inbuilt battery. The only available models I've seen all are battery operated. Though some may have the option of being powered on electric power, the majority I believe are powered by batteries, and this can, as you can imagine, be quite energy hungry and become quite expensive, if you don't have rechargeable batteries.
