Homocysteine is one of the many amino acids in our bodies. Our bodies produce it naturally. However, elevated homocysteine levels are known to inflict damage to the endothelium - the inner arterial lining which leads to many disease states including migraines, stroke, congestive heart failure, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, and hypothyroidism.
In my recent article, “How to Reduce Homocysteine Levels To Improve Your Health”, I will focus on how a proper diet with the addition of certain supplements is the best way to reduce homocysteine levels for health and longevity.
Please share this article with friends and family who may want this information.
To your health and happiness :)

I want to point out the concern of some people with the MTHFR? Mutated gene. These people cannot process folic acid so methyl folate is required for them.

High homocysteine is extremely common in vegans because it is a byproduct of human creatine synthesis and vegans don't eat natural creatine (comes only in meat) so your body has make its own creatine. B12 deficiency might also be related to High homocysteine levels.

For the record, folic acid is the harmful synthetic form of folate. The goal should be consuming more FOLATE. Especially for MTHFR, folic acid should be avoided at all costs.

If you are wondering where your "dislikes" came from on this video, look no further. Do some more research, the elimination of those very things are what most people need to do. Hi, great video. Are you sure about the animal products though? Organic grass fed meats have a substantial amount of nutrients and vitamins in them. Especially Vitamin b. I think strict Vegans have more problems with vitamin b and homocysteine. I have been on a Carnivore/keto diet for years and my homocysteine levels are lower now than when on a higher carb diet.

Fantastic presentation! Question please. My homocysteine is 6.8 and I work very hard to get it their, since I have rheumatoid arthritis. I was using a injectable supplement that had methionine on and off for about 3 months. Do you think that will have a negative affect on my score? That being said I eat mainly plant based and supplement with Folate (l-methylfolate) B, 612. Thank you!

Dear Healthy Chef Jimmy Show, you now have optimal homocysteine levels. If you have stopped with the injectable supplement, you are fine. Keep up with your B supplements, however, I recommend taking the full B complex supplement + B-12 instead of only B-6 and B-9. Also, keep up the plant-based diet which is full of antioxidant nutrients that will certainly help keep your heart healthy. @@GalitGoldfarb I have seen conflicting info on the difference between folic acid and the methyl folate form. CDC says folic acid is fine but many others say it should be methyl folate for people with the gene issue, because they have a problem converting the folic acid to the methyl form. Also Chris Masterjohn (Phd in nuttion I believe) has a video where he recommends all the suplements you do, but also has another video where he states that even just adding enough B2 was able to drop homocysteine levels up to 40% with people with the gene problem. So is B2 also as critical as B9 and should the B9 be in the methyl form?
@Avondale4Me
@Avondale4Me Жыл бұрын
I have elevated homocytsteine levels and the MTHFR gene mutation. People with the MTHFR gene mutation should not consume folic acid as their body cannot convert it. They should take folate, along with the B vitamins. TMG is also known to reduce homocysteine levels.

@@soorajmanne7443 yes. I'd suggest methylated b6 (you only need about 10 mg... Not the 50 that you see a lot of), methylated b12 (I take 4 mg) and Folate (NOT folic acid!!) - - I take the L-5-mthf version (about 3000 mcg). Good high quality brands are like Thorne, Designs for Health, Pure Encapsulations, Klaire Labs. Don't get them from your local grocery store. They're crap bc they aren't quality ingredients, are not 3rd party tested, may have toxic heavy metals and other toxins in them, and usually have only a fraction of the ingredients they say on the bottle. It's a waste of money. That's why they're so cheap. After I did this I lost 12 lbs. I still have a lot to go (25)but I'm quite ill.

It made me feel like I had taken heroin which I have never tried but I assume that’s what it would feel like.… I take methylated B vitamins a couple of times a week sometimes only once a week. I have bad reactions to other B vitamins, Especially folate even if it is methylated. I definitely have the exhausted feeling when I try to do intense or even moderate physical activity. Brisk walking is well tolerated. I’m not overweight, but but my blood work does not look good . Are there other things that can help break down homocystine? Just taking L Sistine make this problem better or worse? Thank you, it’s just me on my own out here trying to gather as much information as possible because the doctors can only give me test results.

how about low thyroid hormone levels?
@GalitGoldfarb
@GalitGoldfarb 4 жыл бұрын
Dear Joewger, I shall make a video about this, but in the meanwhile, regular iodine intake through the diet can improve hypothyroidism. Foods that are rich in iodine include cranberries, strawberries, navy beans and mostly sea vegetables. In the case of sea vegetables, please make sure you do not go overboard on them as this will have a negative effect. Also, avoid tap water since it usually contains fluoride and chlorine that inhibit iodine absorption. Use a water filter that removes fluoride such as the Epic Pure Water Filter Pitcher which removes up to 99.99% of all contaminants including fluoride. Also, consume more selenium-rich foods - Selenium is a powerful protector of the thyroid and regulates the production of free radicles within the gland. Brazil nuts are exceptionally high in selenium, and it only takes one or two per day to improve your selenium status and boost immune function. I hope this helps. Very best wishes to you.

Thank you! Is there anyway to have umol/dL converted to mcol/L? My homocysteine level is at 50 unlock/dL though I don’t know what this means relative to tradition means of measurement.

Is 15 good for homocysteine?
@GalitGoldfarb
@GalitGoldfarb 2 жыл бұрын
Dear Danika, you should aim to lower it. Start by aiming for 12 and then continue. Listen to the recommendations in this video. They will help you to improve to healthier levels. Many blessings❣️

Hi thank you for your prompt reply 😊 Does this mean I have a higher chance of dvt ? How long should I wait before retesting my levels ? I also have good magnesium levels. I eat all of the mentioned fruits and vegetables.

Animal sources are the main source of B-12 yet your not supposed to eat to much of them which seems odd. Vegetables and fruits are terrible sources for B-12 and over the counter supplements are o.k. but again not easy to extract the B-12. What gives?

B-12 is produced by bacteria. The only reason animal sources have it is because of bacterial contamination.

No CITRUS ! This is not how to handle homocysteine!!
@GalitGoldfarb

Sorry, but your comment is very misleading! By increasing the consumption of vegetables and citrus fruit, which are good sources of folate, folate absorption and status are improved and homocysteine concentrations decrease.
