I just want to thank you Peter. After watching most of your videos I have a whole new 'vision' when I'm working with my plants... Just this morning, I found a piece of curved yucca branch that I planted root over rock... It's probably not legitimate bonsai, but I'm enjoying my plants in a whole new way, and I think that's what matters. Thank you.

Showing the refinement of the junipers of Chinese variety is very important here. I like his element of keeping it simple. Within capabilities. Refinement. The trunk; the branches; the angle of planting all are covered. AF

Love this channel! Peter you have sparked a bonsai love in me. I have been fervently buying bargain bin trees here in New Zealand over the last few weeks, drilling holes in suitable ceramics and making little bonsai. Today I went and harvested hundreds of maple seeds at our public japanese gardens and have sewn them following your instructions. Love your DIY attitude. Keep making videos! So appreciated.

I love these videos and learn so much from you master Chan. I do wish people would stop criticizing the sound. I understand it all and also enjoy reading the comments because many of my questions get answered that way but the criticisms make me want to not read the comments; and in doing so I would lose out on much information. I bought two Blue point Junipers, which seem to be very similar to the blaws at a very discount price. I looked all over for a way to style it, but didn't have any luck. I started trimming them and removed the lower branches just to get started. Unfortunately, I hadn't seen this video first where you make a big point about keeping the lower branches to thicken the trunk. Oh well. That's the way bonsai goes. So I guess what I have to do now is wire the branches down and leave them for a couple of years and see what happens. Thank you Peter for all your wonderful teaching.

I had two little Maples that grow from seed and wired them in S shapes. I let grow I pulled them up last Summer and took off the wire and watered them all winter and sudden they were grow leaves on them before all the trees outside had leaves . They are doing quite well. Thanks to your instructions💚💚💚💚

Mr. Peter, do you have any recommendations for working with blue star juniper? I got one last year at a local hardware store for one dollar clearance sale. I reported it and got it back to health. I have to admit nervous to do root work, but I cleaned up the trunk and a lot of sickly looking branches.

We pretty much only use inches and feet in the USA. I like when you use it so I don’t need to look up measurement conversions. We also use Fahrenheit

How long, meaning what length of time, do we leave the wire on? How do we know when we can remove the wire? Is it lignification? How do we know please?

You can leave the wire on until it begins to mark the bark. As the branch grows and thickens the wire will begin to “cut in” and if you don’t remove it timely it will leave an ugly scar. Not possible to tell a fix length of time. It depends on how fast the branch grows. It can be anything from a few months to a couple of years. Just check your trees every few weeks in the growing season. You can unwind a small portion to better see what’s going on beneath. Sometimes the wire doesn’t seem very tight yet there’s already a mark forming. A small scar will disappear with time but if it’s deep it won’t. After you have removed the wire you can subsequently apply new wire to keep the branches in shape if they are not set to your satisfaction. Good luck! 👍

I just wonder, for how much sunlight is needed for those juniper trees? Could they grow in the shaded part of garden?

Junipers can cope with direct sunlight, some more than others. However , keep a check on the watering ect if in full sun. They cope with adequate dappled light. I dont think permanently shaded would be a good move. Best of luck.

I think I killed my Juniper Bonsai . I think I overwatered it. Maybe the cold weather. It is not brown but feels real dry and brittle. Is there anyway to help it?

If you think you overwatered it, let it dry out a little. Put your finger into the soil up to the top of your nail. If it feels wet, don't water it. Watch out for new shoots, so long as there are new shoots, it is not dead.

We use them in the UK also, we use both. But given many of our products are shipped from the rest of Europe, often our products are in metric. But many people use imperial also.

Why does your material look so bad? The foliage needed thinning out so it would be getting good light. Because you didn't do this you have weak foliage. And this is what you call refined? No, this is still very early development. You have a lot to learn. I know you bought the few trees you are known for. But come on, this is not refinement of a tree. Even a beginner knows that.
