@@MsShaSha1013 yes--very 'fumey' but I did this first thing early morning. with windows open at least a crack around the house, it eventually all but dissipated by evening . best done if possible early morn on a day when you can leave the house for a few hours. unfortunately difficult under covid conditions unless you are going to work for the day.

Good job! Remember to start at the farthest reach point to minimize bumping into wet paint and to paint from the top down to minimize runs, sags and pooling.

Two years ago I refinished a friends tub using a $25.00 Rustoleum Tub refinishing kit I bought at Menards (paint Dept). The tub is over 100 years old and was showing black on the bottom where the porcelain had worn off. I followed the instructions closely and the tub came out like NEW! Twenty four months later and a few thousand showers, it looks good! For $25.00, not a typo, you can't go wrong. Respirator not needed. Open a window and run a fan!

Glad to see this project was so successful. We have a 36 year old trailer, and the garden tub is in great shape, but it's a dated blue color. Can't see gutting the bathroom and spending $$$ just to replace the tub, so I'm looking forward to painting it white to bring it into modern day with the rest of the updated bathroom. In this video, I bet that black tile would look super fresh and modern after a few coats of the white tub paint, as well. Thanks for the video!

I used this on my tub. Fairly simple process, very strong odor, can't use the tub for 72 hours so it can harden, but end results are great! I am in no way experienced with this product but for $25...can't beat it. It's not just a paint that wears off quickly. This stuff creates a hard, but thin, shell that looks great. Mine has held up for about 5 years now before I have started having problems with it beginning to chip off, but like I said, I'm no pro so I'm chalking it up to my prepping being poorly done. I'll be re-doing this project any day now and will take the time to prep it properly this time. Great video!

You're right , guy wants music during shower so plugs in portable radio & sets on floor so it can't fall in tub & electrocute him, he gets in shower &, gets soap in eye, eye stings badly, his arms swing looking for bottle of water for his eyes, knocks water on radio by wall, radio starts sparking, sparking into minor flames, flames go into TV cord & TV cord shorts out, cheap mass produced power supply in tv over bath tub explodes shooting shards of glass into his eyes that are still stinging, unable to find the water bottle he panics & steps out of tub onto the shorted radio and TV cord, gets electrocuted and falls back in tub & bashes his head, he can't move due to head and back injury but he thinks "Oh my God, at least I'm still alive!".But the vibration from his impact made the TV, already holding on by threads on the explosion damaged support, finally fall and it crashes onto the side edge of the radio closest to the tub, which.launches the radio into an airborne 360 spin & into the tub, he gets electrocuted again and finally dies Yep, it could happen just like in FD, I loved the Final Destination series!

@ K-9 COOPER I wouldn't want to go back and look at that tub every 6 months. it's a great product and came out wonderful, but it truly is just paint and it's not likely to endure heavy use for long. Best for a lightly used tub or for a makeover before selling. It's been a year and the client says it's fine, though they don't use it very much. Thanks for watching.

+mittsdad It's really very true that these DIY tub refinishing kits don't last. I'm a tub refinishing professional, and I have to fix these DIY refinishing jobs all the time. Unfortunately, what people don't realize is that it's going to cost them even more to fix it, because it has to be stripped before a professional can refinish it. Bottom line, don;t use those DIY kits, just call a professional, and it'll last 10 years or more.

Forget about MASKING OFF the joints. Clean and dry the joint, use a blow dryer to really get it dry. Then using your caulk gun with the nozzle cut at an angle of about 30 degrees and so that the width is the same as the width of the joint, Then introduce the caulking compound so that it fills the void right the way through to any backing. When the caulk is finished, IMMEDIATELY spray with a squirt bottle filled with soapy water. Then using a wet soft cloth on your finger, smooth and push the compound into the joint. Do not use a dry finger or similar. The soapy water should work as a releasing agent which keeps the areas either side of the joint is wetted and thus the caulking compound will not stick to those wet areas. Use a clean piece of cloth. Take your time and the job will be as good as a professional finish. If you make a mistake. Read these instructions again and wait a day until cutting out the messy bit and begin again. You may thank me for the time I save you. Nod now.

@JoeLinux20006 жыл бұрын
Yes, probably better than on a ceramic finished tub. Not sure how he cleaned the caulk. Nothing sticks to silicone. There is silicone caulk remover that is sold at various home improvement centers. I like to pull my tape while the paint is still soft. Naturally you have to be careful not to let it fall into the fresh paint as you pull it off. Someone said you can paint without a respirator. I would not. Get one for painting cars at Harbor Freight or at an auto paint supply store. You need charcoal cartridges to absorb the fumes. The paint is a two part epoxy. The vapours are strong.

Great Video! Anyone who is leaning towards the refinishing route should know a few things before making their decision. I am a Seattle based refinisher and when selling my work I always inform my customers of the limitations with the refinishing process. First of all, there is no difference between re-glazing, re-enameling and refinishing. Anyone who tells you they are baking on anything, or applying new porcelain on your fixture is lying to you. That process requires a kiln and cannot be done in your home or in any refinishers personal shop. Bathtub refinishing is a process in which a technician applies a durable coat of paint over the meticulously prepared surface of the tub, sink, tile, countertop. Although a refinished tub will not have the durability to a factory finish, it will have a much newer look and will be easier to clean. Also, a good refinisher should be able to pull off a spot repair without having to refinish the entire fixture if unnecessary. This can save you money if the whole fixture doesn't require work. Hope this helps!! ~Graham www.seattlebathtubsolutions.com

It's a 78 year old mariner's bathroom! He likes to turn the shower on and pretend he's still at sea.

Wow! Thank you for this video. I redid my bathroom with new paint, toilet etc., but couldn't afford a new shower. It is awful. I'm so happy to try this kit. Thanks again.

Thanks for this; I now have the confidence to refinish my clawfoot tub. I've been putting it off because of being unsure how well this will cover. SuperNova: I found your advice a few years back and used the taping method; worked like a charm and looked sooo good. RE: tile caulking painted; that looks so back i would have painted those too along with the tub
