I have a 1 inch gap between the 2 center doors at the bottom and it touches at the top. Anyway to adjust them? Everything is showing level.
@askillthatpays3 күн бұрын
Yes. You need to raise the top left corner of the right door and the top right corner of the left door. A 1" gap is pretty extreme and you might have to reposition the hardware on the door. Good luck and thanks for watching.

I have everything up and running smoothly, just need to paint. I was wondering why the header had to be at 84.5" . the rail system of the pocket door does not even reach that height. there seems to be about a 2' gap between header and rail. I was assuming that the rail was going to be screwed into that header..Thanks for the the very informative video.
@askillthatpays3 күн бұрын
That's what Johnson recommends for the way they prefer to install it. I've since disregarded that. I don't even use their mounting brackets anymore. I just screw the track to the header. Easier and more secure. Then it's simple math. The wheels hang off the track, door hangs off the wheels, need some clearance above finished floor. Allow for those an you're good. Thanks for watching.

Very complete video.. wish i had watched it first. I just finished installing one of these and find my door knob on the security door hits the deadbolt of the regular door. I am going to need to take it out and shim it out about 1/2".. I don't have enough room to go up or down so frustrating. IS there any way to get those security bolts out short of grinding the head off? You've earned a new subscriber.. Thanks
@askillthatpays4 күн бұрын
Yes, there are 2 ways to do that. One is to grab them with vice grips and hope it turns. The second is to put a cutoff blade on an angle grinder and cut a slot into it thus turning into a big screw. Then try to turn it with a large screw driver, or what I've done is cut off an old 5/8" spade bit and put it in the drill to use like a screwdriver. Good luck and thanks for watching.

The hardest part for me is hanging the door.. how did you simply hang it??
@askillthatpays6 күн бұрын
With this type of door, it doesn't actually hang, it sits on rollers in the lower track. The upper track simply prevents it from falling in or out. Therefore lift it UP into the upper track and then rest it on the lower track so it can roll. Thanks for watching.

@@askillthatpays I served a 4 year apprenticeship, including night classes with Carpenters Union 668 in Palo Alto California when I was not much more than a boy. Early on, I had some old school journeymen that were very good mentors; a few were outstanding. This foundation was very valuable. As journeymen and as years went by we fed off each other to develop high skills. Obtaining contractors license opens up another huge bucket of variables and responsibilities. Lights go on when we see jobs like this metal door; it is in our blood bro. It feels weird and sad for me, as I have no one to pass all my valuable skills to.

Instead of wood stud in the throat for not allowing the frame to bend they make steel butterfly anchors you can manually twist in that the screw will go into and act as reinforcements A commercial door company should have those in stock and the EO (existing opening) bolts
@askillthatpays12 күн бұрын
That's correct, and when clients order certain types of frames, those are included. However, it's not something available at depot or Lowes, and commercial door companies are 45 mins away, so when needed, I just do it this way. Faster and cheaper. Thanks for watching.

I was looking for a video to help me make a prehung door for my exterior water heater access. The original one that came with the house was made out of plywood and was a joke. Other videos I looked at had absolutely nothing about the planning and just showed quick clips of boards being cut and slapped together. Unless you are already an expert, those videos don't help. Your video gave me most of the information I needed to do my DIY job. Other videos can show me how to nicely mortise the hinges and make a door slab and install a door knob nicely. Now I feel I could make my own prehung doors for any purpose. Thanks.
