Yesterday I drove 41 kilometers all in EV however my EV range only and only dropped by 24 kilometers! I made 17 kms of Regen! This SUV is awesome!

You’ve demonstrated the regenerative braking system very well. I’ve been driving my SEL for almost 3 months now and I love it. I use the paddle brakes more than the one pedal button. I like a smoother drive versus the feeling of a sudden slowing down as if you’re going to stall. I sort of use that regen button as an emergency brake 😂

Thank you for the feedback! I myself also use the regen paddles to brake quickly. They are very effective at aiding during fast braking

I just bought my first (new car) 2024 and im wanting to learn as much as i can its the es phev, i wanted it specifically because it was all black i really wish they had the decked out model but this will serve me well. ill be reading the bible on this thing after work for about a year, but if there is more detailed good to know knowledge we can tap into on the systems and what they offer that would be so cool

Congrats on the new ride! I think you'll really enjoy it. It may be the "Base" model, but only 1% of PHEV's made are the ES Model. So you may just have a rare gem there. Please reach out with any questions, we're happy to help. Thanks for watching!

Thank you Jake very much for your great video! I have tried inside out in the owner's manual, that came with my 2024 Outlander PHEV, for instructions on how to shift from D to B gear. The manual explains what B is and how the Paddle Shifters work, but nowhere in the manual they tell you how to shift from D to B! It does tell you that you can only shift to B from D, but not "How" . To someone just shifted from a gas only vehicle to this PHEV, the manual is very confusing. Thank you again for the great show! The car is well designed and runs so well, but the manual is so poorly written in English. I am guessing it is a straight word-to-word translation from Japanese. Whoever did that needs to improve the language skills.

Great video! I'm unsure of the difference between using B mode and the paddles. Are they exactly the same, and B is just permanently stronger? Thanks!

Thank you! B mode defaults to B3 where as the paddles allow you to change the strength of the regenerative braking. B0 being the least sensitive (therefore providing the least amount of regenerative braking) and B5 being the strongest (providing the most amount of regenerative braking). B3 would be right in the middle. Thank you!

I dont have garage to plug it in. Do you think it is still economical to own one? I am thinking of trading in my Outlander 22 GT (Gas) for the PHEV version.

That's okay! You don't necessarily need a garage to plug it in. If you have access to a plug, it should still work out just fine. Mitsubishi does however, recommend using a dedicated circuit to avoid blowing a fuse. Most outside plugs are dedicated, just make sure to check first. Or if you have access to a level two J1772 charger at work or out in public, that would also work well.

question: Why does it kick me out of EV mode when I use the paddles? Should I be in ECO? I'm confused.

Hello Stephan, the vehicle should not kick you out of EV when using the paddles. You should see the blue “EV” light stay on at the bottom of the screen. If you’re referring to the meter on the left side shifting out of “ev” and into “charge”, that means the paddles are doing their job. Whenever the needle shifts down into “charge”, it means the vehicle is still in EV, but the charge is being regenerated. As long as the screen still shows “EV” at the bottom next to the word “Ready”, then everything is operating as it should.

In the "Normal" drive mode, my EV at the bottom by "Ready" is on, but when I try putting the paddle on B4, a message comes on my screen that EV is unavailable. Should I be in a different drive mode, like ECO?@@midstatemitsubishi

@@stephanboiko4712you know what? I withdraw my last comment. I just drove mine around and you are entirely right. Going above 10 mph in B4 or B5, it shuts off EV priority mode. There’s nothing in the manual about this, but it looks like if there’s too much charge going into the system, the gasoline engine will turn on to disperse the power it can’t handle and store. I guess we do learn something new every day! Thank you for bringing this up

Thanks. Thought I was doing something wrong and the manual is big but not always helpful. On another subject but also not in the manual, when I go through a car wash, should I disengage the features like Forward Collision Mitigation? @@midstatemitsubishi

@@stephanboiko4712 hello Stephan, the forward collision mitigation only applies the brakes above 3 MPH and does not work in neutral so that shouldn’t be an issue

It feels very similar! However, this mode recharges the battery with the kinetic energy that would normally be wasted

Hello Joby! Yes, you can! It' s actually recommended to use these while you're driving. When "downshifting" (applying the left paddle to increase regenerative braking) while in motion, your vehicle will slow down and put all of the kinetic energy back into your battery, increasing your EV range and saving your brakes along the way.

That one pedal mode sucks. I don't like it and I passed up an Outlander I really wanted because the salesperson never told me about being able to change the braking.

Well that's unfortunate to hear. The PHEV is one of those vehicles that gets better and better as you learn to use it. The one pedal mode and paddle shifters aren't necessary to use, but as you use them more, you'll notice your MPG's go up and your brakes will wear at a slower rate.

My toyota Avalon doesn't break like the outlander in one pedal mode. As I see it, it's more of safety hazard. When I want to brake the car, I know where the pedal is located. I've been driving a hybrid for two years. I know how to drive one for the most MPG @@midstatemitsubishi

@@midstatemitsubishi Quote "brakes will wear at a slower rate"?!? Are you sure? Even without i-pedal activated, when you press the brake pedal slightly the display shows that the battery starts charging. I think the i-pedal is only a conveniance.
