This is a Fun little project to do if you plant is a little overgrown and is a little past its prime. for me i don't like when the trunk gets too long like this one. I've noticed the leaves don't grow as big and in some cases they loose their vigor. There will be an update coming in a few days that i'll link to a Card in this video showing that you might loose the leaves that were left ... that's OK.. there will be new leaves to grow soon... Stay tuned for updates. there will soon be a playlist with the whole process.

The best video I've found as someone thats had an Alocasia Polly for 3 years. All the other videos I've found are people repotting brand new plants so I was struggling with what I should do with the trunk my plant developed.

I just did this about a month ago :-) I did a lot of research and found some helpful videos before "hacking everything to bits" as you say... But this video is by far the most informative I've seen - it has all the info I managed to gather from several sources, and then some. Although I've already finished repotting, dividing, cutting and all that (now I'm just joyfully observing new growth popping up everywhere, in all my different containers!!), I really enjoyed watching your video :) Thanks for the upload!

This video made me subscribed, and I'll be looking for you on Insta, but I really hope you do a follow up video on the progress as I'm super invested now lol. I really appreciate all this info on Alocasias as I also have a Low Rider and no one else actually goes in so much depth about their longterm care.

Thanks :) I actually kept my polly too wet this summer... so its dormant right now... the tips are still firm and looks like it will start growing again soon... Low rider is such a cool plant... mine in the house is a mealie bug magnet... I have already sprayed it down and wiped the leaves a few times... I might need to fully unpot it and rinse the roots... but there are so many hiding spots on these plants...lol

@@PlantzNThings well at least with these plants having bulbs, it's like they give us extra chances to get it right. I do love the Low Rider, but it was mislabeled as a Frydek and it was really young so it was a couple weeks before I discovered it wasn't and that was disappointing. I just moved it back indoors and I've given it 2 spray downs and luckily it only had 2 leaves at the time so I'm hoping it remains pest free, but I'm keeping all my plants I brought inside in isolation for a month to be extra sure with the low rider and a schefflera, I'm begging for mealybugs or spider mites lol. Just did one last online plant splurge before it's too cold for transport and knocked out 4 of my wishlist plants, norfolk island pine, schefflera alpine, variegated fatsia japonica and a tiki dumb cane. Also got 2 pots of NJoy pothos to add to that collection. Plants are the best addiction to have! Love your videos, been going through the whole list, been wanting to get some plumeria cuttings and now I feel more confident.

Brilliant video! Thankyou. I've had this plant for about 3/4 years and it is growing beautifully. I have noticed the pattern where it throws a fourth leaf then the first leaf tends to die, so my plant usually only has three beautiful leaves at one time. Due to this I have often wondered if I'm doing something wrong. However, the fact each new leaf tends to be bigger and stronger shows me there's nothing wrong. Recently I noticed a new nodule growing out of the stem and wondered what this is, now I know it may be an aerial root or a baby? Your video inadvertently taught much about the growth pattern of the alocasia polly and what to expect in the future, which is the information most youtube videos on this plant lack. Now I know how to make my plant (which is my favourite houseplant) have more foliage in the future instead of just the three leaves! Nicely done!

I tried to stake the leaves that were bent. Finally had to cut them off. There is sap in some of the cut off points. I don't know if my Polly is some kind of weirdo, but mine does NOT like water. If I water it more than once a week, it goes through guttation and drips water all over (puddles of water) and immediately starts to drop leaves (they turn yellow and brown). I cut back drastically on water, letting it go completely bone dry, and it's doing much better. It grew a huge and gorgeous new leaf about a month ago, and just a week or so ago a new growth started coming out with a white end on it. This soon developed into a bud/spadix which is still emerging. I was really not expecting a bloom. All to say "evenly moist": definitely not mine. It likes it dry-dry-dry. I also do not have high humidity. About 30% in the winter, but now with the summer it's closer to 50%.

When I cut the stock to my alocacia to try to propigate (it was just a stock no stems or actual plant but the stock had a crazy amt of roots) the inside of the stock is pink. after removing it from the soil, it seems that the root system was compromised... there wasnt much connection from the "trunk" to the roots i found in the soil, maybe root-rot?
@PlantzNThings
@PlantzNThings 2 жыл бұрын
These alocasia in particular are such divas.... it wouldn't surprise me that there was some root rot... be careful with trying to let it root in water and then moving it back to soil... the water roots tend to die off when you move them back to soil and they have to start fresh again... if you want to try semi hydro, that might be an option using Leca ... otherwise i'd go with a really free draining aroid soil mix... something that dries quickly so you can water it often. in the recovery process keep your plant warm and humid... for the record...lol... this alocasia is the only one that gives me so much frustration...lol... but i guess that's why the leaves are so stunning... it keeps us trying to make it happy... the one that has a somewhat similar leaf that for me is a better grower is the frydek... it has a velvety leaf rather than the shiny plastic like leaves of the polly ... Good luck on your adventures with Polly :)
