►Whether you're removing the intake manifold on your M50, M52, S50, or S52 engine because it's cracked, or because you need to replace the head gasket, or even you're looking to squeeze a couple extra horsepower out of your old, tired engine, the process has many steps involved.
When BMW designed the E36 chassis, squeezing a massive inline-six into the engine bay was quite the feat in packaging engineering. With this, there are numerous components to remove and relocate before you can even begin the process of removing the manifold. Taking photos before and during the process, combined with following Gareth's step-by-step guide, this job becomes as easy as following along.

More e36 vids please! Seems as though there aren't a lot of high quality vids in KZfaq land for this car when it comes to mechanical work. I've got a 97 that's given me some headaches. I find the diagnostic work is harder than the actual mechanical work. Can't wait for the next one!

How likely is it that I’d have to replace the intake gaskets while doing this? Is the m50 manifold worth the time and money?? I have a stock m52 and plan on pulling the intake to get my hands on every piece I can do it once do it right and race around for a long time to come

I have to remove the manifold to replace the leaking hose underneath causing my M3 to overheat, so I decided that while I'm in there, I will replace all the hoses and the fuel injectors, why not?

Which is the easiest way to remove this manifold ? disconnecting the fuel rail or injectors

You can just do the fuel line, but it is not too much more work to remove the injectors and inspect the condition of the o-rings as these are a bit older now.

Note to self, watch the video all the way through to not miss the important step of taking fuel pump fuse out and letting it run before stripping the whole car down 😂😂

"First blood" had me laughing! How do you like the M50 manifold mod? Probably a no brainer on a race car.

It makes a bit more noise, little more power up top, still have to tune accordingly to take full advantage. It's a tried and true performance mod though so was for sure a no brainer. You do tend to lose a little bit of low end torque though.
