It's clear the automaker designed this to be repaired at an auto shop because 90% of rotors do not come with this useless screw in them because the lug nuts will hold the rotors in place. Thanks for the informative video 👋.

It’s not a design flaw. The only reason they are there is for the assembly line when they manufacture the car they need the screws to put the car together. They serve no other function. That’s why they seem like there is no purpose, because that’s the only purpose.

I've watched numerous video's where guys spend lots of time getting those out. Don't spend more than two minutes on them before going for the drill. They are not needed and serve no purpose. They were only there to hold the rotor in place going down the assembly line. Drill 'em and be done with it.

I used a different method on my acrua tl and my parents equinox. If the retaining screw stripped or rusted in there then just use a nail punch and place it at the outer edge of the screw. tap with a hammer and within 20 seconds i was able to get the screw to turn on both cars. It slightly deforms the outer edge of the screw but I was able to still use in both cases. Do a search on seized rotor screw.

If your car is an Asian brand, these two screws ARE NOT Phillips screws even though they appear to be. They are Japanese Industrial Standard screws and require a JIS screwdriver to remove these two screws without stripping the head. The JIS screwdriver does not have a sharp point like a Phillips screwdriver and the bevels are much shorter than the Phillips screwdriver. Save yourself the headache and order a set of JIS screwdrivers from Amazon. Some screwdriver bit assortments may contain the JIS bits.

Do not put these back in they are only there to hold the rotor on during the factory assembly process...I also believe they went with a torx instead of a hex bolt because it's less common for the average person to have a torx bit socket laying around not that you couldn't go buy one but they will make anything harder for the average person so they are forced to take their car to a dealership

I’ve been beating on em all night. Broke the first torx bit, grinded a slot in with a dremel, eventually got it out. Went to autozone and got a new torx bit, got the 2nd one off, and the third started twisting the bit. Grinded a slot again and can’t get the fucker off. It’s gotta be 200 foot lbs. tomorrow I’m gonna try a torch or drill it out

Damn, I learned nothing! Except that my BMWs disc retaining bolts are ridiculously over specified, and whoever put one in before cross threaded it like a good un! Already tried drilling it out, using an extractor, even a cobalt bit wouldn't cut into it. Who the hell decides "yes, we need grade 10.9 disc retaining bolts, and make them allan fittings so they round off!" Anyway, I'm going to weld a nut on it.. Nothing else for it.

What size bit is that? I don’t want to damage the threads. The head of my set screw snapped off somehow and I can’t get a new one in to secure my rotor: Bmw

The rotor screw is technically called a rotor setter. It's not necessary, just for factory. You don't need it.

Use a centre screw drill bit to start the process then use a bigger drill size (standard metal drill bit) and will drill out perfectly

If you have the tools and drills like he does do it. it’s a timesaver and I didn’t even have to punch out the screw. it came off from back easily on a Silverado but I’m in the south though
