About five years ago, Brian, you inspired me to pull the engine out of my 2007 Legacy. It took me two months to complete the job, and I was a different person by the end. I couldn’t have done it without your videos showing me what to do, but also the proper frame of mind for such a job: calm, organized, focused, no anger/ frustration.

I've pulled many Subaru engines in the past 20 years, but it's been a while now that I'm not a mechanic. Well, timing belt broke. So here we are again! Was nice to watch a quick refresher and it all came back to me. Only thing I do differently is I put a piece of plywood in front of the condenser or radiator to prevent the crank pulley from blasting a hole into it on a bad day. Thanks for the brief video, straight to the point. Was exactly what I needed.

This method is fine for the person with all the time in the world to get the engine out. The faster more efficient mechanic attaches to hoist, starts pulling up, and then uses a cutting torch to eliminate everything that continues to hang on to the engine.

I have the 2001 Subaru Forester. It has almost 350,000 MI and going strong! I had the motor rebuilt at 297,000. I noticed a rear main seal leak and my transmission started slipping. So now I have changed the filter in the transmission and putting back in Dexron 3. I'm at the point of pulling the motor to the rear main seal. I'm my own mechanic but Subarus definitely have certain things that you have to know or damage can be done. your videos have definitely maybe confidence to do this and not have to pay a Subaru mechanic a ridiculous amount 💰 Thank you for that

Pulled a Subaru engine to replace the head gaskets just before Christmas. I pulled the heads in the car using your previous Subaru video as an example then realized what a pain it would be to reinstall the heads. My son and I were the cherry picker to pull the case without heads. When we got it ready to go back in, the only rental cherry picker we could get didn't work. Itwas reinstalled with three of us, ratchet straps, and a 4 foot long 2x6. It really wasn't that hard.

Any thoughts on why a 2.0l JDM engine would work to replace an EJ25 in 1999-2005 Subies but not a 2006? Was going to swap one in for my daughter's legacy wagon but the warehouse said it wouldn't work so now thinking of junking it...

I'm thinking wow as i'm looking into the engine compartment..lol they told me he has to pull the engine so it could possibly go into 1 1/2 days , He did it in under 7 hours...I was impressed. what do you think? I had them change plugs since he was there...lol

I’ve never owned a Subaru and see them often on Craigslist with blown head gaskets. Is there a way to replace them and ensure they won’t blow again? Other than the gaskets I’ve heard great things about them.
@tallpaulsynd
@tallpaulsynd 5 жыл бұрын
Chump Johnson short answer from what I have read is no, oil leaks from Subaru head gaskets are a feature. The engine case cylinder design is crappy and leaves the oil passages with very little support on the bottom of the engine. However the claim is that a properly installed head gasket with the "new" design will last up to 150,000 miles before it fails again.

How many A/c compressors do you have? Or was the one tucked into the hole a power steering pump. My wife wanted a Subaru but I told her that you are always replacing head gaskets so no. Was I wrong?
@briansmobile1
@briansmobile1 6 жыл бұрын
I have 2 or 3. Pumps are good, but clutches failed. 220k miles is about how long the "brake pads" on a compressor clutch go. If you do the head gaskets right they go about 150k-200k miles.

@@jamiewmattingly Do yourself a favor. Go to CarSensor and look up used cars. You'll see plenty of vehicles in Japan being sold with much higher mileage. Timing belts are replaced at 100k km's. Some well prior due to not being driven and are changed because of age. You can also check Yahoo Auctions Japan and you'll see older EJ's with much higher mileage than 50k.
@psedog
@psedog 4 жыл бұрын
@@jamiewmattingly Note: The website you linked says 45-60k Miles. That's just shy of 100k km's. IF you buy an engine from them, make sure to change the timing belt before installation. It's due to be replaced. The low mileage is due to how most Japanese use their cars and not due to any laws or routine engine swaps. That isn't a thing.
