You guys have asked for this video for a while so finally decided to throw it out there. How exactly do you remove a Subaru Engine? Well lemme show ya! This is pretty applicable to any Subaru. Yes some things will be different between all chassis but it should apply.
In this video I am using a 2006 Subaru WRX STi as the car we are removing the engine from. Older cars will typically have some things break as you go to remove items but don't sweat it to much, You can do it!

For 1st time folks. Mark hoses with painters tape, number them and write where they go in a notebook. That way on the way back to install them you dont miss a single one, mark them off the list and remove the tape (that way if you see tape, you missed it) Group bolts on zip lock bags and write where they go. Mark direction of parts that same way. Great video wish it was out 7 months ago when I pulled my engine out. 😂

Just an FYI for anyone doing this, don’t remove the pitch stop. The pitch stop isn’t holding the engine, it’s holding the transmission and has up and down movement so it will not brake. You will have no problem getting the engine out with it in and then you’re not leaving your transmission sitting on 2 shafts and 1 mount.

I love how you say “don’t need to lift the car to pull the engine, remove intake, intercooler, battery, alternator” then removes in reverse order and immediately lifts the car 🤣 love it! I definitely appreciate you breaking it down in a quick tutorial, not overly in depth, not full of filler

I kept thinking to myself, this mechanic is speaking at an auctioneer’s rate. Maybe it is my 82 year-old ears. Hope I can follow it all and get my 2003 Subaru Forester engine out to make it easier to replace its head gaskets, get the heads skimmed by a machine shop, find oil leaks and adjust a noisy valve. Then hope I can put it all back together before the North Dakota winter sets-in.

Two questions for you as I am prepping to replace a clutch in my 18' STI (never let you girl drive your STI when the last standard she drove was years ago and was a 90s civic....) any way. 1. do you have to remove the intake manifold to pull the engine, or will the engine come out with the intake still bolted on with all the appropriate connections and hoses removed? 2. I am assuming that with removing the turbo, down pipe, headers and intake etc... that I'll need to replace all the gaskets to these parts as well, correct? Thanks for the awesome video @Smeedia, always look forward to your new videos!

everyone i talk to say they hate working on subaru motors because they are the hardest motors to work on and that always baffles me, ive never come across a motor more easily worked on!, everything is up top or in the front to get access to. It can be pulled in less than an hour. I think the whole having two heads on opposite sides of the motor scares people.

Nice and quick to the point, starting my jdm motor swap project and needed a refresher. Just curious why you removed the intake manifold? Doesnt seem like it gets in the way of anything

Hey tanner what's up, I was thinking about trying to rebuild my engine and redoing all the gaskets,the guys I bought the car from said they changed the head gaskets but I don't trust them and the people who owned it prior didn't seem to take care of it we shall see

Omg I’m so nervous! Need to grow some forsure lmao. I got leaky valve seals in my 05 waggy and need to pull the motor. Never pulled a motor outta anything in my life. This video has boosted my “fake it till I make it” type of confidence. Any suggestions on replacing things on the way for insurance ? Gaskets ect. Car has no other issues as of rn. Just some smoke 💨 when she fires up then it clears up after a few seconds. But the smell lingers and chokes ya. Also had to apologize to ransoms at the pump for engulfing them in smoke😮‍💨🤣🤣🤷‍♂️

Know out all gaskets while your in there, it's really not as bad or as hard as it looks to pull them, I promise 🙏🙏🙏

Thanks for the details man. It's still intimidating to a non wrencher but the plan is someday i'll feel comfortable enough to pull that sucker out.

How long did this take you from start to finish? I have been with Ford for the last almost 11 years and Subaru just hired me as a technician. I am a little nervous as I don't know these vehicles that well but this looks way nicer to work on than anything Ford makes.

Soooo quick question in a 2010 wrx with the 5 speed it doesnt seem to have the transmission slide pin im guessing the slave cylinder and clutch still have to be removed ? In the process of pulling it
@Smeedia
@Smeedia 3 жыл бұрын
Salve cylinder does not, you should be able to depress the slave and pull up on the clutch fork to release it

Hey just hit 110k miles on my WRX and all maintenance was done at 100k miles including walnut blast and 18 sti transmission swap anyways lately I've been noticing a faint smell of gas from the interior of the car and oil seeping from the front right coil pack. Is this an indicator of my motor going out or spark plug is loose?
