How can you take the big wheel out after you take the bolt off we are having a hard time
@TeddyH79
@TeddyH79 10 ай бұрын
@@themoroskyfamily9586I'm sure you figure this out by now, if not in my experience it's a two-handed pole so you're not adding pressure on one side and not the other. Be careful, on the inside is a metal lip that is quite sharp. I cut my finger pretty good.

I had the same problem as many other people. I could get the cap off, get the screw out, but the washplate wouldn’t budge. However, I just got it out, and here is how: I poured about two cups of vinegar in there and let it sit an hour. I read all 195 of these comments and there was ONE comment that helped me by @kulasnikov3875 and it was to add screws. So I found two #8 ceiling hooks and screwed them into the center plastic existing holes firmly (not the metal), and then gripped those hooks with pliers and pulled straight up. The reason it wouldn’t budge is because there was so much gunk underneath the washplate. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

I initially struggled when trying to pull it out with one hand. But as soon as I used both hands (backhanded from the center) it lifted out easily.

@heyou429 if anyone is reading this in the future and has the wt901 model, you can't pull it out like this guy in the video. There's nothing to grab really. I was able to get it out using two pliers.

Before you follow @leannesliva6550 instructions. Just pour 2 cups of vinegar in the tub and run it on tub clean mode. That did the trick and made the large silver disc to come loose

So...90% of our washable shower curtain liner got caught under this plate due to [we assume] the little metal weights sewn in it; lesson learned. My husband and I have 34 years of marriage under our belts and have lived in this same home for 30 years. Yet here we are, hovering over our 4 year old washing machine, one phone being used as a flashlight the other here on KZfaq, looking like Bert and Ernie from Seseme Street, trying to solve [what should have been] a simple problem. 😅 (Glad to see we're not alone having this issue!) ...ok I'm off to get the vinegar. Thank you for the tip! UPDATE: ...VINEGAR WORKED!!!!!😮 WOW!!!! 😃 You don't need a lot, either. (Turns out my vinegar stash was low - I only had about 2 cups worth.) I carefully poured the [about an ⅛ cup equivalent] vinegar around (but not in!) the center hole where the bolt sits. You could do this before even removing the bolt. We waited 50 minutes (because we're impatient) and with a few gentle tugs-it came straight out! ANOTHER TIP: This may be an already-known suggestion - but we used (don't laugh) weed whacker line as the means to pull the plate up. We were afraid of damaging the plate so we wanted to be as gentle as we could be. Being plastic, I didn't think it was gonna be strong enough, but it thread through the 3 holes just fine. I tied a square knot (tension held it together once I started pulling) and, putting the screwdriver underneath the knot, I used it as a makeshift handle to pull up the plate. I suppose it didn't snap because the force was distributed equally between the holes. Washing machine is runnin' just fine in the background as I type this. 😊

I can’t thank you enough for posting this video. My laundry was funky! I put the cleaning tablets in the tub, clean the filters on the hose inlet valves, and nothing worked. For like a month. I thought I must’ve been missing another filter somewhere but the tub looked like one piece. I had no idea this wash plate was removable until I saw your video. I’ve owned this machine for about seven years, so you can imagine what I found under the wash plate! It took me about an hour to get all that gunk cleaned out of there. I’m running another cleaning cycle in the tub, now that the gunk is out. I can’t wait to re-wash all these funky clothes!!!! Thank you!

Extremely helpful video. Also, I used three pair of fingernail clippers. I inserted the rounded but sturdy metal lever into the initial cap's three openings. With the fingernail clipper lever straight down, it did not break anything, but was sturdy enough to very easily lift up that round center cap.

There is a slot on the side of the cap (not the holes on the top that he used). Slide a flat head screwdriver in that slot and pry it up. You’ll have a better chance of not breaking it. No guarantees though.

Thank you so very much. We gutted our laundry room and redid it but before putting my machine in I followed your tutorial and whelp I broke one of the pins off the cap, ordered a new one off Amazon and it came the next day. Rest was smooth sailing and after years of washing it was filthy but I used the Dawn power, qtips, scrub brush and scrubbing lysol wipes and cleaned perfectly. Threw in a washing machine cleaner after putting it back together and it's literally like I just bought a brand new smelling washing machine.

Thank you so much for posting this!!! We are not mechanically inclined, but your video made this fairly easy. We just did this today. The machine is 10 yr old and we weren't good about cleaning it. OMG, the gunk in there!!! We followed your steps exactly and managed not to break the plastic cap piece. We thoroughly cleaned what we could and put it back together. The only thing is that, you will likely inadvertantly loosten some dirt underneath the metal piece and not be able to reach it. So after you do this cleaning, I recommend baking soda and vinager runs. And then a clear water run. I think after that, we should see a big improvement. After this, we will be washing the washing maching every 2 weeks!! Thanks again!

Also wanted to check for how long can we keep baking soda and vinegar in the drum before we rinse it? There is still some residue left between the metal and plastic and we want to make sure the soda mixture doesn’t impact the metal/plastic permanently. Please advise.

@@rajeevjosh great question. 👍 I would say couple of hours should do the trick. But then again I doubt it’s going to be possible to get rid of all the sludge that’s been collected. I found this replacement cylinder on Amazon: UPGRADED Lifetime Appliance AGZ72909711 Washplate Pulsator Assembly Compatible with LG, Kenmore, Sears Washer - AGZ72909702 a.co/d/cuuw9k0 I haven’t ordered one yet. We’ll try to use our current one as long as we can. Once it reaches to the point where those residues become impossible to remove at all then I’m going to order this new one to replace it. Please make sure that it will work with your washing machine model before ordering one should you be interested. Hope this helps.

Just a small tip for removing the plastic chrome cap. There is actually a small notch on the side of the cap. Your video displayed the gunk only at the center around the bolt. When I removed the washplate, the metal "starplate" had gunk and grit on the spokes as well. I sprayed it liberally with Dawn and let it soak while I thoroughly cleaned the bottom of the washplate, center hub, and bolt. Afterwards, I used a plastic scraper to clean the metal starplate, removed as much of the gunk from the starplate and thoroughly rinsed the tub with water, (the tub drain hose was removed to hopefully flush any gunk/debris I couldn’t physically remove. I'm assuming there is no screen at the tub outlet as I've had to disassemble the drain pump to remove paper clips and tie stays from the drain pump a few years ago.

I had the same problem with getting the large top plate off as it was stuck. I seen a KZfaq short video in which the person ran a tub clean cycle with the plastic cap and screw removed. I did exactly that and midway through the tub clean cycle the plate came up and started floating in the water. No need for screws or pry tools, etc. I just let the cycle finish without the plate inside and cleaned it up and followed the rest of the steps in this video.

One thing I rarely see discussed is that I leave my washer door open, until it’s dry. I don’t actually close it when it’s a top load washer. It keeps the machine from getting that funky smell when the moisture causes mildew. And I use vinegar as my rinse agent. I never use fabric softener or dryer sheets in my machines. I find that using vinegar in the rinse cycle, means my towels and such are cleaner and the fabric softeners don’t build up on the fabrics. The towels stay absorbent, and the vinegar smell doesn’t hang around.

This is a helpful video and prevented me from damaging the "cap" over the bolt. I have removed both of them and the "hub cap" at the bottom of the tub does not lift out even with a lot of pressure exerted. My washing machine is slightly different than yours (older or newer, I think newer, came with the house) and there seems to be an additional vinyl white threading for the bolt that also holds it in place and needs to be removed. I don't want to pull too hard.

I did it for the first time in like almost 5 years. If you maintain it well and do cleaning cycles as the owner’s manual calls for you shouldn’t have to worry about this all that often. These are great washing machines. I think you’ll like yours too. Don’t let this process scare you. If you take care of it well you may not even have to do this for several years to come. Hope this helps! And enjoy your new washing machine!

THANKS for making the video and sharing how to clean LG washing machine...but...I discovered 2 things: 1) putty knife is easier than a screwdriver to remove the oval plastic center piece; 2) our bolt must have been attached with a HIGH SPEED COMPRESSION-DRIVEN DRILL...I could not get it off and was about to get my wife to try and put her fingers into that small opening on the edge of the tumbler to prevent it from turning while I used an extension on my socket wrench...but she got worried that I would not be able to put it back together and so I quit...not a good day for DIY!

Thank you for yours feedback! I’m not 100% sure in terms of which type of Loctite to use. I think the reason this "scrud" accumulates is the exit point of the hose is higher than the bottom of the tub... so, trapped water not fully discharged is allowed to sit. My thinking is -you lower that exit point -so it's about the height of the pump -an inch or two above the floor, and then the sitting water will sit in the lowest loop of the hose, like a P-trap. I just cut a bit of the steel body with some tin snips so I could drop the hose down. Also, the design of the agitator is SO stupid -allowing scrud to collect between the stainless top plate and the plastic plate it's pressed to. After carefully bending the circumference of the steel plate away from the plastic, I separated the two -cleaned the plastic part well, and just installed the plastic part by itself without the steel plate. The plastic seems tough enough to endure the abrasion of zippers and rivets, etc. Since the little "hub cap" won't go back on the plastic, I just cut a piece of polycarbonate (plexi-glass) and screwed it onto the plastic with a rubber gasket in between. Just about to run a test wash, but I think these fixes will help eliminate future issues. (still shaking my head at the terrible design.)

I can not get the bottom panel to come off. After I take off the cap, and undo the bolt with the gasket and washer, the bottom piece does not come off. Is there something I’m missing? Or does my model not come off? The barrel looks the same. My model is LG WT7600HWA

Thanks for your input. I did not use any specific tool to lift the pulsator panel myself. For me after slightly wiggling it a couple of times it came right off. Maybe yours got stuck…? It’s hard to say without seeing it in person unfortunately, sorry. I would give it a slight pull while wiggling it and see if that would let it come off. But be careful not to pull it too hard or force it too much where you can brake it. Use your best judgment. Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions. Good luck!

Use gloves. You need a better grip in the opening. It should pop straight out, but the force you need will cut your hands against the metal in that opening. Funnily enough, when you use the gloves, it'll pop out with less force than you think is needed.

Based on your description: A. Either the agitator isn’t seated all the way. B. The screw threads might’ve been stripped/damaged. Also just for good measures I would apply some thread protector tape on the screw before tightening the hub. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the Video. But I think the Prong on the plastic cap was not really broken. You should find one slot on of the plastic cap on the bottom (not the slots on the top) and push a large flat head screw driver in the slot towards the center nut. That prong is meant to give so the cap will come off as you lift. Without that give (flex) of that prong, you might end up breaking one of the prongs.--E
