I just replaced a type AC07 key on my 2014 MacbookPro thanks to your video. I forgot which way the plastic scissor mechanism was oriented, and for some reason I had it in my head that it was bumpy side up. When you explained it's smooth side up, everything start clicking together and my key is now successfully put back together. Something that I noticed is it's easy to bend the little metal tabs on the keyboard if you just try to "push it together". Man getting that scissor mechanism in place first before moving on to putting the key down was crucial. Also sliding my key in "from the top" so that the upper part of the key caught the hook part of the scissor mechanism (preventing it from lifting up on the top) was crucial. Thanks for your awesome video! It really helped me think through the assembly on my AC07 type command key.

Thank you for this video. Didn't realize the shift key was so much different and had a small panic attack when my butterfly mechanism flew across the room in two pieces. Then, as its subtly different from some other keys, it wouldn't flatten out. Never knew I could break a sweat cleaning out a key...

Tim - I am definitely having an issue with the shift key due to the metal bar. There's a definite difference between the two sides. I had spilled coffee on my computer and managed to clean the entire keyboard but now this key isn't nearly as snug as the one on the right side of my keyboard. It seems as though the metal bar should be attached to the key but for whatever reason, I can't get mine to connect now. I'm hoping I didn't break it, as i was very gentle. Suggestions? You didn't show it connecting to the key in your video but you did mention that they were connected in the beginning.

Ok so, i've found tons of videos explaining how to remove and place the keys but mine are very dusty. I would like to know how to clean them in a proper way. Any tips?

in the non-retina 2012 15" MBP (MacBookPro9,1), the metal bar under SHIFT is slightly different (at least on the right side of the keyboard, i didn't open the left). instead of hooking on two metal catches near the middle of the key, so that the bar pivots from the middle, it runs into two holes about 1/3 from the top. the bar might come with the key itself when the top is removed, and you'll want to replace this bar first before popping the key back on. otherwise you risk bending the metal.

when i put my right shift key back in, for some reason the key wouldn't pop back up and it had me typing in all caps, like the shift key was constantly being pressed down. i took the key back out but now i'm not sure if i can ever get it back in properly. i followed all the instructions along with the video so i don't know what i did wrong. can anyone help me?

Very helpful video. Thanks for sharing. This method works but as a warning, don't try it unless you have patience. The squirrel that lives with us pulled our shift key apart yesterday when we were not looking, looked for a video to fix it. I found your video. Now we have our shift key back together (well almost). Before watching your video I tried to bend the key back and it snapped so we had to super glue it back together. The good thing is that we have that key working nicely thanks to this video. We will however be ordering another shift key from the replacementlaptopkeys web site. The video that site has to replace the key is not as detailed as this video so I would stick to this one to get the job done right.

I had issue with my right shift keyboard on my MacBook Pro 15" 2015 (Juice :D) And my keyboard started to work very... mm, smoothly and it was annoying me the whole time. A lot people tried to convince me to do nothing with shift key because it is like impossible to assemble again. I had some meditation before it... and then make a decision to do that! I armed by two toothpicks and did it easy! One toothpick used for to lift the key a bit and the second one for "disconnect" all bindings. And the metal stick was very sticky.. and it was the issue. I've cleaned everything and assembled it as author has shown. It's easy. The only one warning: be careful while disassembling and use something plastic or toothpicks (as I've been using) to prevent damaging something. Thanks to author, the video was helpful for me.

Anyone who's key was slightly lopsided after doing this because of the metal bar.. Don't do it how he did in this video. Instead attach the metal bar to the button first and then hook it instead of having it hooked on to the keyboard first and then trying to clip the button on it. Much easier :)

Hi, Thanks for the video - I did this on the delete key and it "slumps" to the front in that the key appears bigger or more out of the case towards the screen then appears closer to the body at the front - (not sure if that explains it properly - but would appreciate any help?
