This video helped immensely! Most grateful to/for you. What a shame that all the material involved (rim, casing, cover, wiring & screw in fixture) gets discarded with every change. I really wish my electrician would’ve given me a choice before installing all of these in my living room. I have recessed LED lighting in my kitchen, with simple screw in/out bulbs, much like every bulb i’ve ever known before, this wasteful mechanism.

I get so embarrassed to ask people... "How do I change my light bulb?" So here I am on youtube on how to change a recessed light bulb lol. It's still VERY simple and expected it to be! I just dont want to damage fixtures, wall, electrical, etc. Recessed lighting is new to me.

Nice video and it looks like the exact set up I have. One light in the ceiling is going out. I am (was?) a bit confused as it wasn’t clear that I would be switching out the entire fixture and not just the part you screw in. The replacements in your Amazon link indicated that the entire fixture needs to be replaced? Now I need to find an option to buy just one or a few fixtures as opposed to a dozen.

Yes, the LED one is the whole outer assembly... it doesn't have a light bulb, the LED is built in .. yeah amazon had quite a few that were multiples lol.. I guess normally when people switch over they do their whole house :)

It's a good idea to turn off the circuit breaker and test the wires to make sure there is no current

some are stiffer than others and can be a little tricky.. try to squeeze them farther away from the spring portion to get better leverage

... depending on the wiring situation... you would need a ceiling junction box rated to hold a fan too... Sorry I am not a lot of help

You are not replacing a bulb, it's the entire fixture, I have several with less than 5000 hrs that have to be replaced, good luck finding one that looks exactly the same.

Dumb question. We just bought a new construction house with LED lights like this one in the ceiling. One of them is flickering like a strobe light. Does this mean it needs to be changed out? I have no idea ho much they cost and don't want to waste the money or time shopping for one only to find out it flashes too. Does it sound like wiring? Thanks for the video.

hmm new construction my guess would be perhaps the light. The wiring should be good. But it is odd to have one of these go out... I have never seen it.. I do have a few other LED bulbs and some can flicker when they are going out.. Not a dumb question :) Have a blessed day :)

Did you replace just the little screw-in part, or is it the whole light assembly with the outer cover?

Hi COURTNEY :) So THis is an led can light upgrade. So, the assembly is that whole part that I am removing and putting back. the whole light assembly with the outer cover and that comes with the black light bulb electrical adapter. Normally there would be a flood light bulb up there and a metal ring as trim.. The LED assembly replaces that. I am sorry I am not explaining very well. take care :)

Anyway, I've got to replace it and I was wondering if I have to replace the whole assembly, or if it's a certain part I need to get.

@@courtneytucker8784 oh I see. Sorry for the late reply. work calls :P If one of yours stopped working (I thought LEDS were supposed to last forever!) You will need to purchase the whole assembly as far as I know they are one part and the LED cannot be changed out.

Would it be ok to leave the socket on its own and put in a ceiling light to cover it? I have a part of my kitchen that I do not want light on but I don't want to stare at a hole in a wall either

That would probably be fine.. if you are putting in a ceiling light though, you would probably use the wires from the socket to power that light?

the correct answer is yes.. I didn't .. it's basically like screwing in a light bulb.. I never change switch of the circuit breaker for that but I probably should :)

yes.. then you would have to get a housing that held the bulb correctly

I believe it is just a recessed light LED panel... let me find it for you.. this seems to be the verbiage "Integrated LED Recessed Ceiling Light Trim at Selectable CCT, "

So you have to change the whole fixture as there is no light bulb?

Correct... the light part is one whole piece with the LED integrated into the outer housing :)

it is effectively breaking the connection. I would be comfortable with it like that

Ours are collecting condensation from the a/c vent near them. Any ideas how to stop this from happening?

I am not sure ... I have never heard of this issue before.. I would try to angle the vent away from the light if it has a directional adjuster

Sadly, I got a new light to replace one that was out and once I pulled the old one down it looked nothing like what you showed. I was so excited to be able to do it myself, per your instructions, however, I couldn't. There were connections in there that needed an electrician to handle it. My home is only 2 yrs old, I bought it brand new.

The house this was done on is about 8 years old.. most can lights (older) have just the regular screw in bulb and this attachment or conversion to led is for that particular one.. I am sorry this wasn't helpful :(

Stupid question but with these types of LED lights…do you need to turn off the power/electricity in order to unplug. Or are you safe to just change out?

amzn.to/34nKtSx Hey CRYSTAL, if you have a regular recessed light with a regular bulb you can either get an led light bulb or this whole unit.. Both will work.. this particular one is the whole unit

Hi Maria, it's always a good idea when working with electrical.. make sure it's turned off then test it with a voltmeter to double check

Hmm that is odd.. perhaps they have a remote somewhere.. also it sounds like they have a light sensing switch located somewhere 🤔

Okay. But the plug from the light unit had been changed w/o explanation. It was originally orange but when you did the replacement it was white (white to white [new] | orange to orange [old])

Hi JESSLI, yes, this can be removed... it is just a normal can light (I think that is what it is called). What type of light fixture did you have in mind to replace it though?

ETPC EPIC TIME PASS CHANNEL Thank you so much for responding! It would be this light here !! www.homedepot.com/p/4-Light-Chrome-Candle-Style-Chandelier-LZ1183-4C/303972680. My dad normally changes outs the old light fixtures and helped me put a new one up but we’ve never done this before so just trying to figure out if we need to hire an electrician to do it if it’s possible.

I am not an expert. I would assume the recessed lights have more than one on a switch . If you wanted this chandelier or fixture to be on the same switch as the other lights then I would think the wiring would be okay and fairly simple. this one weighs 17 pounds so YOU will have to put in a junction box (ceiling box) that is rated for a certain weight. That would have to be secured correctly in the ceiling to a rafter beam.

So do you have to buy the whole kit? You can't just buy the bulb by itself the little part you clip on? I'm only seeing the whole round light part online and not just the part u clip on.

the amazon link in the description gives you the item.. it is the whole outer part.. it's not a bulb per se.. but a led panel..
