How to Remove Annoying Rear Panel / 3rd Brake Light Rattle it Buzz in 15-21 Subaru Wrx / STI

Since the cold weather, and having an exhaust of course, I’ve developed an annoying rattle coming from the rear seat area of my 18 STI. Here’s how I fixed it.

THIS FIXED EVERYTHING FOR ME HOLY CRAP. I’ve been trying to figure out something for 2 years, even sound deadened the whole deck. And this made the biggest difference

Have been messing with all kinds of foam and tape and was removing and repositioning the third brake light for quite some time now. But although the rattle in my WRX STI MY 2016 seemed to diminish slightly, it never went away, especially when it got colder and at certain RPMs. And rattles are very, very annoying indeed. Until I saw this video, and just tried to follow the advice, without even taking off the brake light. Went to take some stuff in the supermarket and the rattle has disappeared. Thanks a lot, man, I appreciate this very much!

This works, thank god! I had that annoying rattle since day 1 took it to the dealer twice with no luck…now quiet as a country night! THANKS!

Pure Red for the win. 🏁 I like this method. I tried tape on the the 3rd brake light cover and put a small square of deadener, but no improvement. I will attempt the zip tie method and use red ties on my Pure Red WRX. 🌶️🌶️

Thanks for the video I saw some guy shove a microfiber towel in that hole to hold it against the glass but my rattle came back I'm glad to try the zip tie method now

For 2016 WRX with harmon kardon system, there is only 1 hole instead of 3. I just brought a plastic clamp from dollar tree and clamped plastic deck with metal deck through the hole and it solved the rattle for me. Thanks for this video, I didn't have to spend on sound deadening the rear deck

What are the zip ties latching onto tho? I dont get how that will stop the 3rd brake light and panel from vibrating against the glass.

If you look closely, you zip them through the holes in the plastic deck lid, and tie the other end through the cut out holes in the aluminum. It stops rattling by retaining the plastic decklid against the sheet metal. So it can't bounce up as much, if at all.
