How to Remove, Clean and Replace EGR valve for Vauxhall Zafira 1.9 Diesel

In this video I'll show you how to remove, clean and replace the EGR valve on your Vauxhall Zafira. The model I have is an 07 plate 1.9 Diesel SRI. The reason for cleaning is due to excessive black smoke from the exhaust. I perform this routine once a year. I originally took the vehicle to a Vauxhall repair centre and they told me the problem was terminal and the engine needed replacing. I visited numerous other garages and was told it could be the Inlet manifold leaking, or the DPF filter (already changed) or the EGR valve. Millers diesel additive helped initially but eventually had no effect. I should probably blank the EGR valve off with a blanking plate but that requires sending the car to a garage to have its ECU reprogrammed to accomodate the loss of the EGR unit. I hope this video helps.

Good tip regarding puting a cloth or kitchen roll under the manifold to catch the gasket. I did mine last year and had loads of trouble fishing around under the car looking for it. I won't make that mistake again!! Thanks for the video mate.

That's a great bit of info and how to 👍 I'm currently getting issues whereby my turbo stops working after a 30 minute journey. If I turn my car off and on again it's good to go again. Last time I had this issue I replaced the valve replaced whilst on holiday and got utterly ripped off, they charged me £500 and I now realise that wasn't even for a Vauxhall part but a universal part 😡. After watching this I think I could pop a new one on myself 👍

Thanks, a great upload. I had very bad deterioration in milage after the pandemic and checked my Zafira B 1.7cdti EGR, Almost blocked. Easy to take off and clean. A big improvement in fuel efficiency and power. I really like your water tip, will defo do this next time or buy New EGR. Thank you

I love you man, without this video i wouldn't have been able to do this job myself. I followed everything you did and boom 20 minutes later my car was transformed but i didn't clean it i just replaced the egr instead

Thanks for the upload. To anyone who's gonna try this on a Zafira B, the most difficult part isn't the clean up but how to access, remove and re-install the EGR valve. It feels like a 3hrs job, it's so difficult to gain access. i used to own a saab 9.3 TID 2.2, i could remove and clean up the EGR valve in 20mins max, but now with the Zafira, that's another story. So beware before attempting it. By the way, as the access is so painful, if you're up for the job, i would suggest to buy a new EGR Valve, it's cost around 120/150€ online. Why new instead of cleaning up? just because of the hassle of removing it, something you'll have to redo in 6 months. I HATE NEW CAR, everthing goes wrong, EGR valve, MAP / MAF / Lambda sensors, etc....

Very helpful one of the best of the many available. Replacement EGR valve is less than £40 now, what mileage would you recommend investing in a replacement valve. Seen various comments but 80K comes up often?

What would this have fixed? As ive got exhaust smell in the cabin when the fans switch on. No matter what temp the car is or what temp the heating is itll pump the smell in.

i have a zafira b 1.9 cdti 150, and having a wierd issue.. Sometimes i can be cruising along fine, Then suddenly as i attempt to accelerate more, i get a quick, very noticeable loss of power, then it comes back again... it like, bogs down, then picks back up again... Then sometimes i can be driving, 3rd gear, it accelerates rapid, absolutely flies.. Then some other times, it just feels like there is no power there... Is this possibly the EGR?

My zafira starts fine. But when I turn the engine off after a short drive and try to start it again in struggles to start. Any idea what this could be thanks.

Does it crank? First start off with basics and use a voltage meter and go across your battery terminals should read 12v or more. Set to direct Voltage on multimeter.
