Its good practice to pull the vent tube 9f the trans and clean any debris out of it. Its common issue on these cars the vent gets clogged and the internal pressure blows the fill plug out. Just learned this the hard way at 58k miles. Thanks for the video was wanting to know about the filter

To check the proper level of the cvt transmission fluid, there is a check hole that has a check bolt that you take out and then as you fill in the transmission fluid, watch for the fluid to spill from that check hole. Once it starts to spill, then you know for sure that you have the proper level of the fluid. Don’t just estimate it because you can underfill or overfill it.

I would clean the filter housing surface and the oil cooler surface as well as to change the two others rubber gaskets, and be more careful not putting the filter on the ground. But the most difficult job we could learn with your video. Cheers!!

When you change the filter and re-circulate the fluid when driving the car ,you need to check the level with the check bolt after bringing it to operating temperature. Yes it's more annoying to do because you have to close everything up. go for a short drive, cycle through all the gears, then jack the car up again and check.

Ummm... you supposed to take the trans pan down and replace the filter thats in there as well plus need to clean the magnets, when you remove the filter thats in the pan about half extra quart of oil will cone out. At least 2016 Honda Civic has a filter in the trans pan.

I worked for Honda 5 years. No one ever told me it had a filter. 🤔😠 First time I asked when I was rookie. They said they don't have any. So I never worried about it. Glad I don't work there now.

For a noob, other than jacking the car wrong and dropping it on yourself or rounding bolts by using wrong tools or right tools wrong, is there any serious damage you could accidentally do to your car by doing this yourself that would cost you more to fix it later? My CVT is already messed up from a well meaning but ill informed mechanic who used wrong fluid years ago but I don't know specifically what damage was done. Changing the fluid with a solid mechanic helps a lot, but I'm concerned to keep it going it will be a regular (and expensive) process, although way cheaper than car payments. Luckily the rest of car seems to be holding up just fine with no issues, except perhaps leaky air conditioning which according to my friends seems to be a common issue with civics. Transmissions are complex and I don't want to bung anything up while trying to fix it! Thanks.

On mine that plug cap keeps popping out and I read online it was a clogged vent how ever I’ve cleaned it and still pops out. Do you think it’s because my filter is clogged or is it something els?.

Oil need to be from dealer? Have a additives on the other way you go to have problems.

I looked up the part number 96086 on advance auto parts and it says that it does not fit a 2015 honda civic lx CVT.

When I got this filter it came with o-rings and it came with a flat gasket like you would see on a normal transmission. Did anybody get that flat gasket with beers as well and they didn't need it. And I got the o-rings from the Honda dealership and I can see that it might not be the right size from the dealership which sucks.
