jeez yeah 85c is super hot, although im actually surprised it stayed there and never went over 100c, which then it would be toast. I imagine it underclocked itself or the machine shutdown to survive? now those temps look more normal.

If it's stuck (and you already removed the motherboard from the case) -> use a hair dryer, on low setting and blow on the heatsink. Usually it transfers heat FROM cpu, this way it will transfer heat into cpu. And that thermal paste needs just a little bit of warmth to get unstuck

The best way to break the thermal paste is to run it and let it become hot then shut it down and remove it

hmm haven't tried that but it makes sense. Just be sure you don't touch any metal thats too hot.

These stupid arrows are so counterintuitive. I broke my last fan screws so I wanted to see if its different way to do it. Midway watching your video I feel like - this is so counterintuitive. And I opened my pc and turned the arrows back and... Voila! It opened without braking. Awesomeeeeeeee P.S. The new Intel 7 fan I bought got some 3 thin layers of thermal paste. And I am like thinking WOW this is some next level engineering. I turn on my pc and run LoL - the temps were 88C - 90C. I immediately wiped it and put one squirt of regular paste and... Voila! 58C MAX of only 1 of the 6 cores.

Do you need to apply thermal paste with the fan? Or just use the pre applied thermal paste it comes only
@zzzzzz...99024 жыл бұрын
You can use the pre applied thermal paste. However, if there is no thermal paste because you need to remove the cpu or some other reason, then just put a pea size of thermal paste onto the cpu and no thermal paste on the heatsink as when the heatsink with fan comes down onto the cpu, it will squish the thermal paste out between the cpu and the heatsink. Just make sure you don't use too little of thermal paste. As far as using too much, you really would have to go all out in order for it to affect anything. Linus tech tips did a video on how much thermal paste you need and what is considered "too much."

you can.. might want to redo the thermal paste, it depends. want to see how sticky it still is and how much or if it dried already.
@dhLotan5 жыл бұрын
@@DouglasHewitt I don't think you should ever reuse thermal paste. Clean it off with isopropyl alcohol from both surfaces and reapply the thermal paste to the IHS. If you reuse old paste, even if it isn't dry, there may be air bubbles in it which reduce the effectiveness of heat transfer.

I hope you can help me and answer..so do i have to worry about all those electrostatic stuff before touching all the parts in my pc..and im scared about bent cpu socket if i try to remove the heatsink because of the hardened thermal paste..so do i just pull the heatsink up or any extra carefull measure??..and can i just touch the processor with bare hand is it safe??..thanks if u can help me
@DouglasHewitt6 жыл бұрын
So usually electrostatic is never an issue, to be safe touch a grounded metal object, like a metal computer case plugged into a wall, this will discharge any static electricity in your body. You can also get a electrostatic mat and wristband to be extra safe, its not necessary though. Removing the heatsink, you should not have to worry about bent pins. As this video shows just rock the heatsink a bit to break the thermal paste and then when its loose pull straight up, you will feel it break free.
@DouglasHewitt6 жыл бұрын
you want to touch the processor by the edges, with bare hands is fine, just don't touch the underside
@leevi660 Жыл бұрын
My heatsink has the same connector type solution and I'm trying to change the thermal paste. I did unscrew the screws and popped them out. I rocked the heatsink around a little bit so that it obviously disconnected from the dry thermal paste. Now the issue is, the heatsink only comes out about half a centimeter or so, and it's very obviously those screws resisting me from pulling it out. I'm getting hopeless here, it's a prebuilt Asus G11CD-K from 2017 and I'm trying to avoid having to disassemble the whole thing just to get this cooler out.
@DouglasHewitt Жыл бұрын
It might be unavoidable, you may need to access the intel cooler plastic pins behind the motherboard to close them manually to get them to come out safely. You get it sorted?

@DouglasHewitt3 жыл бұрын
as in are you removing the heatsink and then reattaching it? yes that would reduce efficiency. if thermal paste is new and still gooey, like you just installed it, and then re seat it, you might be ok. If its been on a while and hardened and then you remove it breaking the cake like texture, thats really bad to reattach it, it will not cool properly, you need to clean it all off and use new thermal paste
