Hi, thanks so much for these videos, I've found them very useful. I got a small scratch on the quarter panel of my Defender (90), so I bought a new panel from your store (although they've gone up a bit in price since this video). It got me thinking....instead of pulling the panel off (and breaking it in the process), would it be possible to remove the trim panel inside the vehicle, and push the clips out one at a time from the inside? Thanks. Update: So I didn't want to risk breaking an interior trim panel, so after studying the clips on the new quarter panel I used a wide nylon trim removal tool to push in at the bottom inside corner (next to the door seal). With this I was able to pop off the clip at the bottom inside edge, which gave me enough room to squeeze my fingers in behind the "inner" part of the quarter panel. I was then able to just pop the remainder of the clips out with no damage to the panel.

Saw a lot of this sort of design creeping into Automotive industry where the stylist is looking for the perfect gap, the engineer looking for a practical solution where the panels can be adjusted at assembly as the body tolerance is so large and then the bean counter wins with cheap parts. I feel sorry for the parts supplier as the warranty for poor design and uncontrolled processing is going to significantly impact his business. I like the Velcro solution at least that would allow for adjustments at assembly and they could design out the clipping structure behind the panel 😆 Great video again keep up the great work, if I was in England I’d hit you up for a job a little experience mixed with your willingness to invest in younger poeple and tech is fantastic to watch 👍👍👍

Thanks for the comments. We have a young team in the warehouse and they are all keen to come in the workshop and learn / help out and it seems to work well. Sometimes it takes a little longer to get projects completed but we are not under any real pressure !

So thanks for pointing me to this great video. I want to copy your external socket box which you build into this pillar. Is there anyway to get cables from the outside to the inside without drilling? I guess this topic would qualify for another video. I’ve seen other people than me asking the same question underneath your videos.

If you remove the rear panel - it just pops off - and you will find that there is a rubber grommet that allows you to route wires from the inside to the outside. I touch a bit on it in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oNxlpsZq2rLJqKM.html

@powerfulukltd From the looks of all the room in these panels, have you thought about rather than rivets, maybe small bolts and nuts and a hinge and turn that into small, lightweight storage? I could visualize two shelves or three small pockets for gear you need to get? Maybe electrical /USB outlets for roof top tent? Not sure, but it sure seems like some useable space in there! :) Maybe just a cool feature that contains LED lights for camping?

@@L663 yeah, I had my rail covers popped out since I got the vehicle and was too lazy to go back to the dealership so I purchased the 5 point torx and had a go at it, found out the tabs holding the cover to the plastic bracket so flimsy had to superglue them back, but I didn't care as I'm waiting for the rails to arrive anyway.

I'm very doubtful that the rivets can withstand the tugging you undertook to get it off the first time. I'll bet the rivet heads either enlarge or split the plastic holes and remain stuck fast in the underlying plastic frame next time you try to prise them off. It might last two or three more attempts to remove, but if you have my kind of luck at this sort of thing, don't expect a permanent fix! "Good luck with that"!! ;-)

Hi Peter... this is a project car to test and develop accessories... the instructions stated that to remove the rear light i needed to remove this panel but the panel broke during the removal process as the welds joining the panels together was weaker than the clips... clearly this is not the way it was supposed to be.
